I just assume that the objects like the matchbook and the cigarettes don't have to be "used" to gain a power from them. Like simply holding them or placing them on something would be enough to activate whatever they did.

Great idea !! That would be a scary venture not knowing what will set off an Object or what will happen when it does go off !

I've got a theory that the Objects "talk" to the user telling them how to use them. That's how Joe knew to picture the door in his mind with little or no actual experience using it.

The quarter, for example said "eat me."

My own ideas for the cigs/matches:

Pack of cigarettes: If someone coughs while holding the cigarettes it will create a rainstorm spanning 100-yards in each direction from the holder. Rain will cease after 20 minutes (one minute for each cigarette in a pack).

Matches: Opening the flap of the matchbook causes the person to go deaf until it has been closed.

I just had this thought. Could the water that comes out of the bathroom faucet be an Object? Think it over and talk amongst yourselves.

We have over 1000 posts now. No one expects you to read every page. I just thought you might think it amusing that we had followed the same line of reasoning. I am probably not even the first one to think of it. I would wager that buried in the thousands of entries of the now defunct SciFi forum this idea was already analyzed to death. A sad lesson I have learned from the internet is that it is virtually impossible to have an original idea.
