on the dvd set
the first dvd
the title sequence where it lists the episodes
a very clear shot of the key and the comb
the clock....
is that the right key? it seems different
than the one we see in the series
has tlr been released on hi def yet
might help with our clarity issues.
just a thought
I can only imagine a hi def viewing party.
I know from watching Lost the difference in what you
see between standard and hi def.

Re: on the dvd set
We have discussed this at some length.
Most of us are of the opinion that it is the same key, just the other side. The key seems silver in some scenes and gold in others, but that appears to be the result of lighting.

Re: on the dvd set
not so much the color
as the part where it looked like two keys welded
together
there is a great key shot right after gruber at the shrine
when joe first looks into room 9
its the scene where he holds the key out behind him
the camera pans around and there is a great key shot
if I knew how to do a screen cap I would grab it.
I know in tv and movies there is usually
the finely detailed hero prop (the one that gets the closeups) and the one the ones that take all the abuse.
just thought it might be like that.

We have pondered that and agree .....it is for sure two keys made into one.
My guess is that the original key was too short so the prop dept made it longer buy welding another key shaft to the head.
Which is why no one will ever have a show correct key. Someone may get close..but to have one 100% correct will take mighty work.

Re: on the dvd set
That’s news to me. I didn’t get in on the “welding” discussion. I will have to study the key scenes again.

Re: on the dvd set
right the key he uses in Jennifers door
looks different than the key when he is at room 9
as well as the key in the title sequence.
I'd laugh my butt off if we learn that Peter Krause
or somebody broke the key on set, because they
are always jamming it at every lock. and they just
welded a new uh er thingy onto it. so they could
have some continuity on the handle part.

Re: on the dvd set
I have looked though all the screen shots i have because we were trying to identify the exact key and in some of the shots you can definitely see that it is in fact the same welded key. And the key pattern on the end remains constant regardless. so i personally am 99.987666% sure it is the same exact key the whole time through. i might post pictures later if you need to see for yourself ^_^
