Scifi channels doesn't care about daytime viewers

Recently again, I sent the Scifi channel an e-mail reguarding their daily rotation lineup. They basically keep showing the same four shows over and over. Theses shows are The Twilight Zone, The Outer Limits, Tales From the Darkside and now, Stephen King's Kingdom Hospital. Now while I enjoyed these shows at one time they are on weekly. And sometimes twice a week. Now as someone that used to work nights and may again, I look forward to having something to watch during the day before work. Soap operas, talk shows and celebrity shows are, to say the least, vomit enducing at the best of times. So if you feel they way i do, send the Scifi channel this piece of your mind and maybe they will start to show some shows that haven't been seen in awhile like The Invisible Man and others that seem to disappear after their cancelation.

I’ve given up on the SciFi channel. The overblown buildup for Tin Man followed by the shameless spin doctoring to milk it dry was the last straw.

I have to agree with you. I gave up on Tin Man the second night it was on. The only thing I still watch the Scifi channel for is Stargate:Atlantis.

What I hate most about the scifi channel is all the non-scifi content; ghosthunters and all that rot.
At least they finally got rid of the Jonathan Edwards crap.

My sister suggested that we push for a new channel that is really about science fiction. But how can people like us do that? I don’t even know what a channel is, much less how you would “push to create a new one”.

The sad fact is that the Scifi channel is trying to compete with the big networks and they get the idea that they have to do the reality shows and whatnot. I used to like Ghosthunters but it's gotten a little old. And now they have UFO Hunters which is played at the same time on another channel. I remember when the channel first came on, you had tons of old shows and even some episodes of the Original Doctor Who but now they can't be bothered to even try and make the people happy that are basically paying to keep the channel going. Instead of creating another channel we need to flood them with e-mails telling them how unhappy we are with some of the programming. I'm not totally unhappy with the channel. They've given at least a few seasons of life to shows that may not have been able to come to any conclusion.
I like Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, Andromeda, Doctor Who, and a few others but with shows like Flash Gordon, guys with wings are Hawkmen?, I think they need some serious fan input. Why haven't they bothered to show reruns of Heroes or Journeyman? They had these shows on for a few eopisodes and then just dropped them. Now at least they have Chuck on which at first I wasn't impressed with this sort of Jake 2.0 ripoff but when you have almost nothing to watch on Friday night while waiting for the new Stargate Atlantis it's at least something to watch.

I do like Battlestar Galactica. Maybe they are salvageable.

I would rather they show some of the old exploitation Scifi—even stuff like Missile to the Moon—than ECW wrestling and the slew of reality shows.

Yes i am not happy with Sci-fi's dictions. i should write them a e-mail as well. I like Battle Star but i have not seen any of the new episodes. and i also loved Stargate back when Jack was in it. and well Atlantis is not good.

They should rerun some of there canceled shows, or old shows. Like invisible man, 7 Days, Mystery science theater 3000, TLR (haha), futurama, and other old or new scifi shows. I dislike reality TV because i hate it, and i hate wrestling.

And about getting a TV channel made. There are a couple different ways. But mostly you need to have a way to get money (commercials that pay) and to have enough viewers to bring those sponsors back. Otherwise it is just a business, i could start one! But i would need at least 4 other people to start one because it has to be a corporation. so you need to have your listing of shows you want to have on your station then you have to present a budget plan to a bank to get money for the corporation then buy the equipment and licenses required to broadcast. Then you have to buy the show you are putting on your network. most often these start with old shows as a majority of your programing because it is cheap. but as people start to watch and get you ratings the commercials will pay more and allow for some original programing and so forth. But if you are successful you might have a larger channel make a bid for your channel that some people can not refuse. But if someone has a better explication please go ahead. Otherwise you would have to send a letter with a lot of signatures to a big tv company to gather attention to this idea and bug them and well give them some free ideas on how to make money. Then they might venture into it if they see a profit for it.

I will ask my Entertainment company friend what is required and maybe bring some specifics back here. but otherwise its get a company to buy into the idea, or build the idea and start it. The third option now that i think of it is that you can sell the idea and offer to take on the task from another company to create a child company to make the station. that way they can sell it either it goes good or bad and would not hurt their company if it goes down aside from the initial investment.

Re: Scifi channels doesn't care about daytime viewers

I just recently checked the daily rotation for this month and next and they have loaded up the four shows they continue to play over and over. I have e-mailed them on several occasions about this but they have no interest in returning the e-mails. So I am of the mind they don't care what the viewer has to say as long as the numbers are in favor of what they play. Even though the system for viewer ratings is outdated.

Popularity is a strange thing. Very often I learn that something I find absolutely repulsive is a big hit.

Still, it is difficult to account for ECW. What percentage of the population likes science fiction and also “professional” wrestling? And what’s with all these skeleton people and prehistoric monsteroids?

It’s as if their scheduling is done by a peculiar tunnel vision variety of Ed Wood. It reminds me of the movie parody of “The Brady Bunch” where the father is trying to design a store and can only think of things that look exactly like the Brady home.

Do you suppose the people at the SciFi channel have gotten into a sort of cynical rut where they no longer care about art and only want to make as much money as possible as quickly as possible before their next audit?
