Re: The Wikipedia Objects page ATTENTION !!!!!!

But why would the injection gates be in different locations? Is that something that is easily altered? Why would different companies, making combs decades apart, make identical combs with slightly different specifications?

Re: The Wikipedia Objects page ATTENTION !!!!!!

It is just the matter of taste and machinery. Perhaps the new maker hasn't got original blueprint for the mold... perhaps the machinery has so significately changed the injection location is more convenient in other place.

The simplest reason is the most likely: there has been changes in employees and machinery between castings

AND perhaps there has been changes also in the mixture and the old injection location just was not attuned to the new mixture... perhaps there just were no longer maker for the exact plastic grain and they had to get a new or cheaper grain provider... which would result in changes of the mold to better suit the different behaving plastic material.

But I do not have an answer to the why different makers try to make similar looking combs... perhaps it (the comb style) is a matter of status.... result of a industrial spying or the design of the comb is just superior to either make or use... who knows

I want to make sure we are absolutely clear what we are discussing here.

Here are the combs from the other side so you can see the differences I am talking about.

Image

They are, left to right, the Aristocrat, the Pretty Miss, and the Contessa.

If you look closely, you will see that the numbers are not in exactly the same places. There are other subtle, almost undetectable, differences. In other words, all the molds were made from scratch.

These are the boxes the combs came in. They are different widths, different lengths, and made of different paper. The only thing they have in common is that they are capable of holding combs.

First things first. Why would obviously different companies, separated by decades of time, make identical combs? It is not as if combs have to be engineered. I could design a comb. I’m sure I could.

Well, to join this discussion I will have to wrap myself in the cold, wet, mildewed blanket of hypocrisy and throw the K.I.S.S. method to the four winds bar. And so I do.

The comb is a particularly bothersome issue for me as it defies some things I've learned about these objects lately. First off it doesn't fit. Not that a traveling man would not have a comb, because I think Eddie had one. Wasn't there a comb in the grooming kit? The reason I say the Comb does not fit is the time frame of nineteen sixty one. At that time most American males were enthralled with the now diseased James Dean. Rebel Without a Cause made in nineteen fifty five had defined a generation, and James Dean used an Ace comb as a prop. The use of that comb by Dean in the movie spawned a generation of would be rebels and until the sixties this was the comb of choice by American males. This leads me to ask why Eddie would carry such a cumbersome thing as those depicted. He had short hair and if he was from this dimension he should have been subject to the James Dean phenomenon like most others of that era.

As for the question it's self about combs and their differences I'm sure Cat is correct when she wrote "The simplest reason is the most likely: there has been changes in employees and machinery between castings".

As America went from a manufacturing base to a junk importer base things would change, because of cost cutting measures as well as the necessity of fulfilling orders without the luxury of safety or quality concerns. Case in point the Ace comb is no longer made in America as of recently, and I'm sure we will find significant changes not only in quality, but in process as well such as injection points. However back in the day, around nineteen sixty one and after the successful movie in nineteen fifty five Rebel Without A Cause I wouldn't be surprised to find out that there were some patent challenges to other manufacturers as Ace tried to protect it's market. It was a different world back then, and law enforcement actually cared about the law and the paten protection.

Some of these ideas worry me though. It puts fourth the proposition that the Prop people might have just mailed the comb Object in. Meaning It's just a comb they used, and no thought or chicanery was bothered with it. The comb in question is a barber's combs, right? That's why they have ruler sides. I read that a comb with ruler measurements on it, is the key to giving an even haircut. Why would Eddie carry one of those? If your sure the Object comb did have the ruler side, then it would suggest it was the ability to measure something on the fly that was important. As if need be he could have pulled it from a handy pocket quickly. I'm wondering why is there a water sample? Did the water sample have to be taken at an exact depth? Or were there something else that needed measuring...like an unknown object in season two that never was made?

Still yet another question. The Sunshine motel was written to be on route sixty six, and that road is known as the Mother Road. Dean's comb or a knock off would certainly have been there if it was any where. What about Eddie the man? Admittedly we know very little about him, but while I could see Eddie using a Aristocrat comb I could never envision him using a Pretty Miss or a Contessa comb. Large combs were not popular for men until later in the sixties when long feathered hair came into vogue. The larger seven inch comb (or larger) was introduced out of the necessity of constantly having to comb long, hard to manage hair. No this comb, the object comb had to be a motel comp comb for the ladies, but if that's true why is it a barber's comb?

The one absolute I'm certain of is the Object comb would have to be American made at the least or imported from Europe, and seeing that the Sunshine was a economy class motel I would bet the comb was an American made cheap, disposable. Which again raises another question. Why doesn't the Sunshine name and or logo appear on the comb like other Objects that were plainly comp, promotional items? Is there a way to tell if the comb was altered by the Prop people? Such as the name or the manufacturer being removed? Did Harold remove all tell tale information on the Comb so those who observed him with the Comb could only say when asked "it was just a simple comb..." Not "it was a black comb with yellow letters that said Sunshine Motel"? I certainly don't know.

The plot thickens

First, I must say I think this is a wrong thread for this discussion.

About the comb Object. It can not be damaged outside the Room, so Harold would not remove any markings from it.

Also Eddie had a grooming kit with him, it was of his luggage, not of cheap motel supply.

The water sample is not paulian... it is just the collectors here wanted a sample of the Room water into their collection, so it becomes an Object-water (?!) sample in a non-object jar... Eddie did not posess a water sample at all.

Hello Cat,

"First, I must say I think this is a wrong thread for this discussion." You would know better than I at this point, but I'm sure your correct.

"About the comb Object. It can not be damaged outside the Room, so Harold would not remove any markings from it." Excellent point Cat, thanks.

Also Eddie had a grooming kit with him, it was of his luggage, not of cheap motel supply. I knew that, and that's why this other comb bothers me since it wasn't his (at least I think it wasn't his)

The water sample is not paulian... it is just the collectors here wanted a sample of the Room water into their collection, so it becomes an Object-water (?!) sample in a non-object jar... Eddie did not posess a water sample at all. Thanks for clearing that up for me Cat. I thought it was an Object I didn't see that was in the Vault. Why a water sample though, I don't get it?

Thanks again Cat,
Best Wishes,
kasondegaul

Christopher Leone (I think it was him) has stated "All objects in the Room present at the time of the Event became Objects"

a watermolecule is not "an object" per se, but many seem to think the water in the toilet basin or in the sink most certainly has Object-like quality. And since the sink provides unlimited amount of watermolecules you just can not posses "The Water" only a sample of it.

just to let you all know....

I am having problems with the Wiki people again...they say our Object research is not verifiable and they do not like our link at the bottom of the page and they constantly remove it (and some of our research) and I have to always add it all back...they say we are not of a neutral postion in regards to TLR so it looks like we might have a fight on our hands....I will not let them push us around and this battle will continue.

Well if they don't like ALL the information we have found, I say they go find it themselves! They wouldn't even know where to begin. Stay strong Chuck, and try to keep that Wiki up!
