Welcome !

I'll have to think about that. That is the definition of an object : It remains in the room when reset.

So you're asking what object isn't an object...

Welcome

The Key is never in the Room when reset

Also the Occupant can go where-ever he wants!

okok.

i meant the polaroid emoticon

the thing is: when the creators pick a science explanation they can explain the most of the objects properties with string theory. even the room is explainable.

but not that damn polaroid.
the occupant is also somehow a little bit tricky.

in my opinion it should fall in front of the window outside of the motel room10.
...but how it got the ability to show a 3d holographic-alike "picture" of room10 is beyond me.

i also think that the polaroid caused the initial event.
maybe eddie was somehow time traveling and went to that place he knew he was visiting at that time and took a picture of the younger eddie with a camera from his timeline.

...srry for my bad english

There is certainly a story behind the Polaroid. If it was in the camera at the time of the event, it would be Perfect. But it is clearly "distressed". But Chris has said there is NOTHING outside the Motel room.

greeting sir

As to the polaroid to the best of my recollections none of Jess's photos shows the placement of that objects. If that is the case it is more that likely in the case. but it could just as well be in the trash can. Since that object is distressed is means some time must have past since the shot was taken. It is quite possible a flash failed to fire and it got tossed in the case where it got banged up by the equipment. For reasons unknown Eddie removes the polaroid and into the wastepaper basket face up. Other then flooring, tile, and rug this object has the lowest and thinnest plane in the room. When the event happens it has the best vantage point to record a 3d of the room.

Id bet good money if that object was held upside down the orientation of the image would change

What if the polaroid when in the presence of a combination of objects went beyond verisimilitude
and actually became a window into the past. Could we in fact witness the event as it unfolded. What that not be cool

If the objects power were to "show the past". It should show the past anywhere. If it only shows the past at the Motel, that implies it is a new property, as if acted upon by a second Object.

What if in fact there is an Object BURIED at the site? Deep enough so that people won't chance upon it.

You have a theory! We like theories. You must write it up in detail as a separate string so that we can link it to our theories catalog.

Re: there is an object we know about that wouldnt be in the motel after a reset

I wonder why the picture was in the room in the first place. To my knowledge for it to be the kind of picture that develops straight out of the camera, it needs that little ink pouch thing at the bottom.

The Polaroid is just a picture with a frame to it: http://img108.imageshack.us/img108/2993/vlcsnap1830371jy0.png

Doesn't the image need the extra space at the bottom where it holds the ink to print the pictures as they are taken?

(Though the Polaroid instant develop film before 1963 was all roll film rather than pack film, so the picture wouldn't have been an instant develop image given that the event took place in 1961 and given the state of the image it was from a fair bit earlier.)

If so it means the picture was taken and developed outside of the room, but in it's normal state is just black.

This likely means that the image either held some kind of sentimental value for Eddie (not very likely) or it was in a stack of photos he had developed and just never took it out of the stack (it possibly getting damaged from being treated rough because he just didn't care about it, though the stack of photos likely would have been treated the same way.)

I have also seen the photo be refereed to as undeveloped, this being the case Eddie may have been an aspiring photographer at one point, and left it in his briefcase or what have you, and never taken it out due to laziness or apathy, getting banged around unprotected in his belongings.

On a separate note, going off of the previous theory that the right combination of objects could show the entire event itself through the Polaroid, I wonder what would happen if you looked at it through the glasses, or with the eye, or wearing all of Eddie's items?
