I have written instruction books (and even published one in 2006) since I learned to write. I think it is a nice idea, although we do not have much clientel. All the information we have to share, is on this forum. Do we really want to compete with ourselves? Also creating real-life books (printing etc) costs money. Who would sponsor that? You know we need to have couple of books ready to mail before any orders. Or were you thinking you just print a book to your customer with your table-top printer and send it to him in an envelope? THAT is freakingly expensive ink and paperwise. It also means you have to knit/staple/glue/whatever the book yourself by hand. And if you even hope we would sell 100 copies of the book... imagine printing 100 copies of the thing with your printer, knitting it together as book, gluing covers to it and then licking 100 stamps and delivering the books to a post office.... I am sorry to rain on your parade, but I edited my book 4 months after the 8 months it took to write (9 hours a day/6 days a week), to make sure all details were correct. If I am taking part making our book, this is the commitment I know it asks, and I am not sure if I have the time for it. Anything less would be blasphemy XDnondisclosed_email@example.com (Cattrina)Sun, 21 Oct 2012 03:51:04 +0000 Re: hmmm?https://bthecollectors.runboard.com/p21239,from=rss#post21239https://bthecollectors.runboard.com/p21239,from=rss#post21239The idea of a book is very compelling. I'd like to do a section on speed collecting if that would fit with what ever format your going for. I would buy a copy. It explains the Lost Room in a simple way for someone who's never heard of it. The book has no real value for a Collector.   It also spins off topic frequently by talking about Science fiction in general or the history of the SyFy channel. The only time this is really helpful is when it talks briefly about the lead actors careers. I think our book should something like, "Object collecting for COLLECTORS". Going into detail about how to find prop replicas and Paulian objects. It should assume you already know WHAT the Lost Room is.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Jintosh)Sat, 20 Oct 2012 00:02:23 +0000 Re: hmmm?https://bthecollectors.runboard.com/p21204,from=rss#post21204https://bthecollectors.runboard.com/p21204,from=rss#post21204I just read the article that X linked to. Here is a quote: quote: The cover was adorned with a stripy abstraction that looked like a beach towel. Inside was the Pagan Kennedy Wikipedia entry, and then a random collection of wiki-text tenuously connected to my path through life. (About a quarter of the book is devoted to Dartmouth College, where I worked as a visiting writer a few years ago.) Some of the text is so small you might need a jeweler’s loupe to read it. So the book was, as advertised, Wikipedia content — though it’s hard to imagine anyone would want it in this format. All of these books are a complete waste of money. They are just computer generated garbage from some scam company in Mauritius. DO NOT BUY ANY OF THEM! nondisclosed_email@example.com (Spikosauropod)Sun, 14 Oct 2012 02:21:04 +0000 Re: hmmm?https://bthecollectors.runboard.com/p21203,from=rss#post21203https://bthecollectors.runboard.com/p21203,from=rss#post21203The one with these ISBN's has 72 pages and is "authored" by Lambert M. The Objects from The Lost Room are (mostly) powerful artifacts from the Sci Fi Channel mini-series The Lost Room. The set consists of roughly one hundred everyday items one would expect to find in an occupied motel room in the 1960s. They are indestructible under most circumstances and possess various supernatural powers. In the series, the Objects were created when the Event wiped Room 10 of the Sunshine Motel from history. Room 10 was displaced in space and time, as were the Objects, and each object was given supernatural powers. Does this mean they used also our forum as a source?nondisclosed_email@example.com (Cattrina)Fri, 12 Oct 2012 11:22:20 +0000 Re: hmmm?https://bthecollectors.runboard.com/p21178,from=rss#post21178https://bthecollectors.runboard.com/p21178,from=rss#post21178Yup Found that last night: An AuthorBot There was a write up in Wired about Computerize fact collection punched into a linear narration. Because the Collectors are quite aware of their unique statistical outlierness we know there is no way on this planet a book about the Lost Room is going to be published. Further if said book were real we would be littered upon its page. The ROFL part is $45.
