It is possible that one or the other or both glasses are safety glasses thus zero magnification.

That, my friend, is extremely possible!
Ruber wasn't stumbling around with the glasses on (when he stole them, not when he was recovering from heat exhaustion)
One of Eddie's eyes was glass, so no prescription would have been required on that eye. And, having lost one eye already, I could see him wanting to protect the other eye.
Is Eddie wearing the safety glasses in the Polaroid? As in to protect himself from shrapnel emanating from the Event?
