That, to me, makes clear that killing him was an accident. It also happens to be at the same time that Joe drives up with Eddie, so it may have been intended to inhibit their obstruction, which would explain his expression as he's turning around, though that could be due to the discomfort of being amidst a rippling spacetime. [ From here on, I'm going to assume you've all seen Spike's theory on The Conroy Experiment having created The Objects. ] Arlene knew there was no Room 10; Gus makes this clear when he says 'The motel only had nine rooms, but one day Arlene finds the key to Room 10.' After that he illustrates that her fate is wrought by her own deeds: her lust for the Objects drives her to death, yet this desire for acquisition and for understanding began with a mystery: how can the world I know [ originally, the Sunshine Motel ] which I experience daily have more to it than I can see? We she opened the door, her thoughts were adventurous ones; to explore the part of our universe none have seen. She knew there had never been a Room 10, but when she opened The Door 'the right way,' she found it, though doing so had detrimental effects. Just as Kreutzfeld is sliding The Key into Room 9's lock, he says aloud 'I just want to see my son,' and when he opens The Door, that is what he sees. I don't know what the implications of this are, but it seems to me that in both instances of The Experiment, the driving force of the experimenter is held before them shortly before bringing their demise. ... There is a field of psychology whose dogma is that you can know a man by his craft; that in any work of art is its creator. This is called psychoanalysis, and I assume it is known to all of us. The point I'm getting to here is that the correlation I've found - and perhaps those you've - are the result of the minds which created The Conroy Experiment in the first place. I'm mean that literally: Chris, Laura and Paul. Whatever The Room represented to them, whatever the Objects were symbols of in their minds, whatever the effects on the people who own the Objects or their curiosity meant to them, that would cause there to be at the least some inherent correlation between the two experiments and their functions and the relating meaning which is conveyed subconsciously to us all. I don't think we can at this developement apply any definitive logic to what we see in TLR, so this may all be futile, but with time and deep, philosophical thought I think this may all be applied to reality in way which, perhaps, none of us foresee now. nondisclosed_email@example.com (ThyWhoDevourstheSoulsofMen)Wed, 19 Nov 2014 19:52:57 +0000 Re: Thirt33n's Conroy Cornerhttps://bthecollectors.runboard.com/p20903,from=rss#post20903https://bthecollectors.runboard.com/p20903,from=rss#post20903it is different.....strange how many ways this could have gone..... And then Isaac withdraws back into the room. What if Isaac saw Karl kill a man, and the reason Karl kills the man is that one/two etc. object powers are overlapping and the power makes you act out your worst fear. Karl would never want Isaac to see him kill someone. Karl doesn't care if he kills someone, just as long as Isaac doesn't see him do it. It seems like Karl is under the influence of objects. Mortal minds would be naturally if Time decided to play hopscotch with the rest of the universe. I did always love how calm the Occupant is with the whole end of the world scenario. For him its nothing, being an Object and all. He's really the only constant in that entire scene. I love this idea of the door opening to some massive rift in time, but this brings up a question. If the door is pulling Isaac back from the past, then what is happening to the past Isaac in the normal timeline? Does he suddenly go "POOF" out of existence or are two separate but equal Isaacs created? Really love how we've all got a Conroy Conversation going! That actually makes sense considering the Occupant's statement that there is "more than one Room" in existence. So the Conroy Experiment might bring all those instances and times together at the same moment, an effect that would be disastrous on a universal scale. Thus the Room was able to produce Isaac at that moment. One thing that I really want to know: how did Conroy figure out this particular combination of Objects? From the dialogue concerning the Watch Box it seemed like she knew what it did and had been looking for it for a while. It would be nice if we could make some sense of those blastedly arcane Object charts.nondisclosed_email@example.com (thirt33n)Sun, 13 May 2012 22:10:33 +0000 Re: Thirt33n's Conroy Cornerhttps://bthecollectors.runboard.com/p20602,from=rss#post20602https://bthecollectors.runboard.com/p20602,from=rss#post20602many years ago i DM-ed a campaign in a game called RuneQuest. The system was developed to counter all the wanky elements in advanced DnD. For magic to be done you needed a curtain amount of time, and focused time at that. In that system as I remember each turn had 12 units call: strike ranks. For magic to work 6 ranks to prepare 6 to execute. Karl had neither the time nor the focus. The 1/4 had nothing to do with the appearance of his son. Thank Jin for remembering that Karl was in fact surprised to see his son which I think nails down the focus issue. BUT Now we have: THE CAN OF WORMS. Something [the room the room the room] knew what Karl wanted and the power to produce it. And by the addition of subtle emotional inflections in the voice this new son was vastly superior to the 1/4 product. One could say the different was in terms of magnitudes or in terms of order of raw power. If we see the objects a class one, you would need a class two to make a real boy. The only class two possibilities we are left with is God or the Room. But is gets worst. Intent. This was not just a matter of setting an object into its prescribe purpose. This is some force with the ability to understood human desires and the ability to retrieve a long dead body. Or has it been dead long or dead at all. We spend a lot to time looking at how the objects work in the realm of a physical world. We understand gas, liquid and solid states. and for gigs and snorts sublimate and plasma. What we tend to be weak on is the second great product of the big bang ..... Time. And here is where I think the Room is at its best. It can manipulate the different states of time. Tom Post Script: Sorry for taking the topic off center. I think we need a mess of ground work get a better understand of what the Conroy-Kreutzfeld bridge is all about.nondisclosed_email@example.com (dmv1066)Sun, 13 May 2012 21:49:55 +0000 Re: Thirt33n's Conroy Cornerhttps://bthecollectors.runboard.com/p20598,from=rss#post20598https://bthecollectors.runboard.com/p20598,from=rss#post20598quote:when Karl and Joe were in the Vault, Isaac appeared behind Karl. oh yeah. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Jintosh)Sun, 13 May 2012 17:14:35 +0000 Re: Thirt33n's Conroy Cornerhttps://bthecollectors.runboard.com/p20595,from=rss#post20595https://bthecollectors.runboard.com/p20595,from=rss#post20595quote:Not a quarter manifestation. I really like Tom's idea of the Room "eating" Karl for some purpose, like it might have done to Conroy. The Glass Eye zapping Anthony has always bothered me a little but I think the Glass Eye might work as sort of a knee-jerk reaction. Karl thought someone was coming up behind him (Joe and the Occupant in Monty's car) and thought something like "kill the intruders" and the Glass Eye reacted. About the coin and the memory of a son. I think it was Paul who said the memory becomes flesh and does not need support from the coin. Only one memory can be created at a time, and the rememberer can change the memory appeared. But when the memory is, it can walk in and out the Room just like everyone else. quote:Jintosh wrote: Yes, but appearances are that he found his son. Something worked. That's just...creepy. I still wonder if the Glass Eye might function to keep Karl alive through the whole process. Perhaps that was what the Room was waiting for then, someone with the right Object that would have them survive the process or perhaps the journey. When Joe and Karl get to the prison the sun is high in the sky. Later an exterior shot of the prison shows early morning lighting. That is when Karl loots the vault and abandon Joe to an unnice end and returns to PA. Joe bus tickets himself to Gallup. Once again sun is high in sky [check shadows on road and the old house] He and Wally drive to Willowbrook mid to late day. They get to Sood's at dusk [note cars have their headlights on] At about 10 pm Joe leaves with Monty's car. He must sleep and drive from L V to outside of Phoenix Az. That gives us a good 24 hours plus, about the time Karl cuts his eye open. Joe and Ed drive to Gallup maybe about 12 maybe 1mp. Now if Karl is remotely regular the quarter has passed through, but first he has a last exchange with his memory son and after popping the glass eye in. I would think sending a quarter through your lower GI would be very painful and timing that with a object that heals all fresh would be a part of your planed event. since the powers of objects are not present in the room, we are left with the question do the effects of the object are they also not present. Would a memory of the Son started outside the room suddenly dissipate within the room. Karl has very little knowledge of the room, I do not believe he would do anything risky like trying to bring the Son with. Further would he risk adding element to the experiment other that the eye. It seems for the quarter to work you have to be thinking about the memory of who you want. Karl did not have time to focus on his Son because he was busy killing his right hand man. So why does Son suddenly show up. If the son is to become a real boy somehow the memory would need to be infused with much not present in the memory. As good as the objects are only the pencil seems to transmute metal. And that might not be the case, the pencil could be grabbing them and transporting them Occum Razor, or change the first and second laws of thermal dynamics. I don't believe the objects can create. So here is the weird possibility. The Room knew. The time Karl was in it would be full of thoughts centered on his son and a plan how to get him back. Maybe the Room agreed with the plan. Or maybe the Room needed Karl and the son was just the bait. nondisclosed_email@example.com (dmv1066)Sat, 12 May 2012 15:48:16 +0000 Re: Thirt33n's Conroy Cornerhttps://bthecollectors.runboard.com/p20582,from=rss#post20582https://bthecollectors.runboard.com/p20582,from=rss#post20582It could have been an effect of the Quarter though.nondisclosed_email@example.com (thirt33n)Sat, 12 May 2012 14:10:51 +0000 Re: Thirt33n's Conroy Cornerhttps://bthecollectors.runboard.com/p20579,from=rss#post20579https://bthecollectors.runboard.com/p20579,from=rss#post20579quote:Well, we know the Objects have diverse powers, they might not have anything to do with what the item is. The idea that someone actually tried to open the door “the right way” has always made me wonder what lies within that light. I've formed various theories and notes over the years that I just wanted to share/post/insanely rave here. Bare with me if this all seems familiar but I've got a feeling that with the coming Season Two that we haven't heard the end of the Conroy Experiment. First, its important to understand what Objects were present during the two Conroy Experiments not only attached to the door, but also physically present near the opening (or breach). The First Conroy utilized the Clock (which sublimates Manganese/Brass), the Nail Clippers, the Cigarettes, the Toothbrush, and the Ashtray. These five Objects were attached to the door of Room 9 directly. Next, Conroy used the Key to open the door before she opened the Watchbox. It was only when the Watchbox was opened that all hell appeared to break loose. Now according to Conroy's husband we know that the Watchbox was one of the last Objects that the Collectors found before the Experiment. This means that the photo of the Collectors in the diner (provided by Jess) with the Watchbox, Clock, Flashlight, and (perhaps) the Transistor Radio must have been taken sometime just before the actual experiment itself. We can infer then that the seven Objects used in the First Conroy (Clock, Nail Clippers, Cigarettes, Toothbrush, Ashtray, Key, Watchbox) may not have been the only Objects present at the time. While we don't know how close an Object has to be to another Object for them to affect each other we can assume that it may involve some distance due to the Object's innate ability to attract each other. The Second Conroy used the five door Objects and the Key but did not use the Watchbox. Kreutzfeld mentions in the original script that Conroy “got the last Object wrong” in this case the Watchbox. Repeating the Experiment, Kreutzfeld utilizes the Glass Eye instead to some interesting results. However the Glass Eye isn't the only new addition. Remember that Kreutzfeld still has the Quarter in his system, and may have brought the Flask and his old Cufflink back too, and any other number of Objects from the Vault or his own collection. In both Experiments the Occupant also manages to be present at the time as well. So while it seems that the five door Objects and the Key open some sort of breach in space/time, how that breach reacts depends on the other Objects that are present at the moment. So far we have yet to see how the opening would react to a controlled version of the Experiment (the five Objects and the Key alone with no other Object interference). Long and a little rambling but again the Conroy Experiment was one of my favorite aspects from the show. What lies beyond the breach is still a mystery (another universe, the Event itself, God) but one well worth pondering.nondisclosed_email@example.com (thirt33n)Thu, 10 May 2012 22:45:17 +0000
