The Life Magazine appears in The Eye and the Prime Object. It is visible on the desk during Dr Martin Ruber’s vision in the desert and it is visible later on the Sood’s computer when Joe Miller and Howard (The Weasel) Montague visit the Sood with the picture of Eddie and Mabel. The Life Magazine is one of the objects in the Sood’s computer inventory.
The powers of The Life Magazine, if they exist, are completely unknown.
The Life Magazine is the July 7, 1961 edition with a picture of President Eisenhower and the caption “A New Life for Ike: Down on the Farm”. Note that the date on the magazine is July 7, which is slightly over two months later than The Event. Christopher Leone, one of the three writers of the miniseries, has confirmed that this was a prop error. There has been much speculation as to how this error could eventually be harmonized with the mythology of the show. Probably, the best solution is that it is a replacement object for an earlier edition that was damaged in the room. Frequently, a novice viewer will speculate that the magazine may have been issued two months earlier than its edition date. This is impossible, since the magazine contains an article (pp 31-35) that describes the events of a well documented medical convention that took place in late June.
Useful eBay search terms:

Although the Life magazine in the miniseries has been revealed to have a mailing label, many collectors prefer one that does not have this label. If you want a magazine without a mailing label, avoid sellers who list their magazines with stock images similar to the following. Even if you are OK with a mailing label, it is unlikely that a magazine purchased in this blind manner will have the label in the correct position:

Re: The Life Magazine
one of the most... well, interesting objects for sure. not only does it LOOK cool as an object, but you can actually READ it and it's all pretty trippy.

Re: The Life Magazine
Quite true.
Many of the objects have been that way for me. I had no idea that a comb like ours ever existed, much less that there are so many exact knock-offs going back for decades. Before I started studying the objects, I had no awareness of “depression glass”. It would never have occurred to me, though in retrospect it seems quite reasonable, that the same mechanism was put in several different clocks.
And the consistency of a bull on one side of a wallet and yucca plants leaning away from each other on the other side along with a parallel consistency with the horse seems surreal.
