1961 World Almanac
I have discussed this briefly with the Apostle, but I feel that it is now time to throw it out into the open.
When Mabel gives the wedding picture to Joe and Wally, she takes it out of a 1961 World Almanac:
Notice that on the end of the Almanac is a stamp for the Santa Fe Public Library.
Since Mabel is a librarian in Willowbrook Arizona, it is improbable that she would have a 1961 Almanac from Santa Fe New Mexico (if anything, she would have returned it).
My thesis is that Eddie acquired this Almanac during his travels and gave it to Mabel along with the picture. Possibly, he gave it to her hoping that she would discover discrepancies between the Almanac and her observed world. This might explain why Eddie thought Mabel might eventually come to her senses and visit him at the sanatorium. Since Eddie would have had this Almanac with him in the hotel, it would certainly be an object.
Let loose the dogs of war!

Re: 1961 World Almanac
You could also theorize that the almanac was obtained between the Event and whenever he contacted Mabel (possibly during a time period when he was attempting to figure out if he was still in his own world and what else besides his own absence was different).
In this case, the almanac/Almanac would be a good candidate, along with the Life Magazine of course, for the Object that demonstrated to Eddie the Conservation of Objects.

Re: 1961 World Almanac
Excellent observation.
Due to its highly speculative status, I have classified the 1961 Almanac as infrapaulistic. I display it as part of my object collection, mostly just to be ornery, but no one else does.

Re: 1961 World Almanac
I would like to think this is an object. Because you could see the diffrencces in the time line when one "ordinary guy" is plucked out of existance. At least then you could truly tell weather your life had any effect on the world.

Re: 1961 World Almanac
I would have to say though not an Object that the almanac is a very important item. I want one for sure !
Eddie for sure got it to check his new world or lack there of and it's difference to his old life.

The problem with this theory is that it would require Eddie making a side trip to Santa Fe before going home to see Mabel. This is unlikely, due to his circumstances; and nearly impossible, since he had a punched bus ticket to Willowbrook Arizona.
It is far more likely that he acquired the Almanac earlier during his travels, which makes it a near certainty that it is an object.

Re: 1961 World Almanac
Well Eddie probubly had the key so this "Side journey" would not take long or maybe he was in that area when he wanted to check this out.
(just a thought)

Good point about the key. He could have easily slipped into the Santa Fe Library and taken what he needed.
However, this theory requires that he already realize his world has changed. If that were so, why the awkward confrontation with Mabel? If he had gotten to the level of scrutinizing reference books, why wouldn’t he have been more prepared for her reaction?

Re: 1961 World Almanac
good point but i think he was expecting Mabel to not know that is why he tried to reason with her why he gave her the photo.
I'm tired... off to bed for me haha

Re: 1961 World Almanac
Thinking a bit more on this, it occurs to me that Eddie may have discovered the properties of the key in much the same way as Joe and started experimenting. He could have been looking into the Almanac and suddenly realized things might not be right at home. Just as Joe jumped up in alarm when Wally drew his attention to the people who might harm Anna, Eddie may have had a sudden revelation: “What about Mabel!”
There is one explanatory gap remaining. Why would Joe have left the Almanac with Mabel? To her it was just another Almanac; and one that, as a librarian, she would be expected to return to its rightful place in the Santa Fe Public Library.
