Re: Card case

Spike,
Don't worry I'll find the rivets sooner or later.....

I [sign in to see URL] the case hold the Pack of Cigarettes in them during the event but later became very useful by containing the Deck for safety's sake ? Did Eddie pair these two intentionally ?

 emoticon

Could the case be an Object ?

Interesting. Tandy even states in their catalog that a deck of cards can be carried in it instead. Coincidence?

If you can't find the correct open center rivets, you could always use the standard ones available and peen them with the dome to the inside. You wouldn't be able to tell the difference from the outside.

I like the way he says that all you need to complete it is “scissors and tooling stamps”. Lucky for us, we have no intention of following the instructions.

Maybe we are getting an insight into the original prop maker’s mindset: “Forget this, let’s just die it brown and put in a bunch of those cheap rivets we have in the back!”

Don’t be lazy. We know that the Tandy Leather case is exactly right. Get it and you will have the case. Just prepare for a riveting experience.

Re: Card case

I wasn’t satisfied with the color of the card case I had made, so I planned to treat it with brown die. However, I had coated it with mink oil to give it protection and luster. When I tried to remove the mink oil by immersing it in hot water, I inadvertently shrunk it to the point where it was ruined. I was back to square one.

I got online and bought three things from [url=[sign in to see URL] a new card case kit, some saddle tan oil based die, and some large nickel rapid rivets.

--Log in or sign up to see linked image content--

The rivets I got from stecksstore were better than the ones I got earlier. I put two coats of dye on my card case (it works much better if you soak it thoroughly in water first). Then I put it together with the rivets. I used a cheap sharpening stone from the dollar store as an anvil inside of the case.

To get the leather case the right size for the cards, I made a mold out of a bridge sized card deck in a plastic container that I got from the dollar store. To fill the plastic container out, I added in several more cards. Then, I thoroughly soaked the leather case, greased the mold with mink oil, and slowly worked it into the leather case. When the case dried, I pulled the mold out using the handle I had built onto it with duct tape.

Now, the cards slip easily into the case and fit like a glove. The case looks perfect.
