Re: Update on Paul

I had a Pulmonary Function test last week that should give us a better idea of how much damage has been done. Then we can decide on a course of treatment. In the mean time I'm using an inhaler which is helping a lot.

I do still get winded when I overexert myself, or when I go out and breathe in cold air, but the toughest part has been quitting the cigarettes. I've been smoking since I was 18 and while I've cut down to just a few a day, it's still been a very difficult habit to break. I don't want to use the gum or a patch because this way I can taper off of the nicotine at a much more gradual pace. I don't want any more shocks to my system.

I'll let you guys know when I hear anything else, and thanks for asking.

Re: Update on Paul

The pulmonary exam showed that the damage isn't too severe. As long as I stay away from cigarettes and keep exercising I should be able to get my lung capacity back. In fact, seeing as how I wasn't in the best of shape to start with, it's conceivable I could get into better shape than I was before.

Tomorrow I start using the patch. I've been tapering off the smokes but now it's time to really get serious about this and remind myself that I want to be healthy so that I can do the things I want to do.

Thanks everyone for your good thoughts. The next few weeks are going to be tough but I'm starting to see some new potential for myself.

OK, so quit the cigarettes. Consider this your discount warning. Quit, quit, quit!

On the bright side you can breath better and think of all the money you will save without buying cig's that you can spend on object hunting ^_^
