I have been corresponding with Chris about the video game mod i am working on, very nice and cool guy. And i was wondering if you wouldn't mind me corresponding with you when i have some needs for graphic art for game models or other random questions. I am stoked that you are here and answer our questions for freely. My question for the time being is do you have any pictures of the motel room and some of the objects? I have been trying to get good screen captures to get my texture work just right but things never look just right. oh and you did a tremendous job on the lost room. your work holds up to some of the most analytical people here. Two thumbs up god sir. and i can not say it enough sir. thank you for being here with us.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Ghinius Sahalin)Wed, 12 Dec 2007 14:44:21 +0000 Re: Objects (for the film) designer.https://bthecollectors.runboard.com/p2530,from=rss#post2530https://bthecollectors.runboard.com/p2530,from=rss#post2530I hadn't heard of "Breaking Bad" until you drew my attention to it. Thanks for doing this Steve ! words cannot describe how much we are dying to see this stuff ! Charles BTW.....Breaking Bad looks great !! I look forward to seeing it ! nondisclosed_email@example.com (Chucklbunny)Wed, 14 Nov 2007 09:26:57 +0000 Re: Objects (for the film) designer.https://bthecollectors.runboard.com/p2514,from=rss#post2514https://bthecollectors.runboard.com/p2514,from=rss#post2514If we had the umbrella sequence, we could identify the umbrella. If we had access to the 8mm film we could verify all sorts of things. You are a priceless asset to our cabal. Since I am from Seattle, I would especially like to see all the umbrella stuff! nondisclosed_email@example.com (Spikosauropod)Tue, 13 Nov 2007 23:25:41 +0000 Re: Objects (for the film) designer.https://bthecollectors.runboard.com/p2513,from=rss#post2513https://bthecollectors.runboard.com/p2513,from=rss#post2513Spikosauropod - Got me stumped on that object at the end of the table...but I will find out! . By the way - just a piece of trivia, we shot the Seattle Umbrella sequence that's referred to in TLR. I took pictures and have them buried somewhere - I'll try and find them when I get time and post them. Also, I have the 8MM film on DVD that is used used for the Collectors sequence. I will try and post that on my site over Thanksgiving when I get a break from Breaking Bad.nondisclosed_email@example.com (gfxguy)Tue, 13 Nov 2007 21:51:51 +0000 Re: Objects (for the film) designer.https://bthecollectors.runboard.com/p2482,from=rss#post2482https://bthecollectors.runboard.com/p2482,from=rss#post2482OK Steve. We have another identification question for you. The Order of the Reunification has an object on the glowing table we can’t identify. As you enter their object temple, it is the flat object to the right of the postcard. It is at the very end. Here is a screen cap that shows the table from the other side and the object just to the left of the postcard. It appears to be flat and about 2” by 6”. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Spikosauropod)Mon, 12 Nov 2007 16:58:19 +0000 Re: Objects (for the film) designer.https://bthecollectors.runboard.com/p2472,from=rss#post2472https://bthecollectors.runboard.com/p2472,from=rss#post2472…but that was a wonderful answer. I can’t wait to hear what you learn about the Almanac. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Spikosauropod)Mon, 12 Nov 2007 14:06:37 +0000 Re: Objects (for the film) designer.https://bthecollectors.runboard.com/p2469,from=rss#post2469https://bthecollectors.runboard.com/p2469,from=rss#post2469I am overwhelmed by the response from everyone. Thank you so much for all your warm welcomes! I was doing a search for the movie poster and stumbled across your "collectors blog". What a fun site! You all had me so psyched about the show again that I watched the DVD this weekend with my daughter (she makes a small cameo during Isaac's party scene). I am currently working on an AMC / Sony series called "Breaking Bad", so I'm pretty slammed, but I will be dropping in to answer as many questions as possible. Spikosauropod - Honestly, I don't think we really thought out the season of the photo. It was created from old pictures of the actors merged with an old picture I had that featured a couple sitting in front of a tree. (At the time you're doing these things you don't realize they're going to be analyzed it such detail LOL!) I will find out from Ben why the book is stamped Santa Fe public library. paulv70 - you can email me a mailing address at filmgfx@yahoo.com. I'll get the PC out this week. nondisclosed_email@example.com (gfxguy)Mon, 12 Nov 2007 09:57:25 +0000 Re: Objects (for the film) designer.https://bthecollectors.runboard.com/p2444,from=rss#post2444https://bthecollectors.runboard.com/p2444,from=rss#post2444Welcome gfxguy ! I guess if you build it they really will come. Steve, I have several questions about the photo of Eddie and Mabel. You can answer as you see fit. 1. Why was it tucked into a 1961 World Almanac stamped Santa Fe Public Library? 2. Why doesn’t the man look more like Tim Guinee? 3. Why is the couple in front of a Christmas tree during summer? These mysteries have kept me awake at night. Like I said, answer as you see fit. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Spikosauropod)Sat, 10 Nov 2007 23:37:04 +0000 Re: Objects (for the film) designer.https://bthecollectors.runboard.com/p2437,from=rss#post2437https://bthecollectors.runboard.com/p2437,from=rss#post2437Wow, welcome to our Cabal gfxguy!!!! Your stuff is great. I actually have several postcard that we printer. I will dig one up and send it to you next week. The key was created by the prop master Ben Lowney, who's a friend of mine. I will give him a call or shoot him an email to join this forum and talk about that stuff. I'll have to go through my stack of stuff and see what we did with the bus ticket (my personal favorite item along with the giant Sunshine sign). --Stevenondisclosed_email@example.com (gfxguy)Sat, 10 Nov 2007 16:57:26 +0000 Re: Objects (for the film) designer.https://bthecollectors.runboard.com/p2431,from=rss#post2431https://bthecollectors.runboard.com/p2431,from=rss#post2431Thanks! I spent many hours staring at screen shots to get the details as accurate as possible. Can you tell me anything about how you distressed the ticket? I wet mine with weak tea, then dabbed on damp coffee grounds to make make the stains. If you have any pics of yours I'd love to see them. Another item I designed and had made was the pen. Here are a few more efforts that others here made either as individuals or as collaborations. Now for the first question I'm dying to ask. What can you tell us about the actual key? We've all got fobs but would like to have the right key to put on them. I've done a lot of research talking to locksmiths, etc. but haven't been able to track it down. Some people believe it's actually two keys that were welded together at the base. nondisclosed_email@example.com (paulv70)Sat, 10 Nov 2007 11:18:16 +0000 Re: Objects (for the film) designer.https://bthecollectors.runboard.com/p2430,from=rss#post2430https://bthecollectors.runboard.com/p2430,from=rss#post2430 Spikosauropod - Ok...you're exactly right! The objects were inspired by mid-west Americana with Route 66 as a backdrop. The Sunshine Motel sign was the first thing to be designed and the objects all kind of evolved out of that look. paulv70 - I am blown away by the detail! How did you get the bus ticket detail so exact? Stop the DVD? I think you've done a excellent job. I have a few of the items still and I though maybe someone had actually got there hands on one and put it on ebay. What else have you recreated? --Stevenondisclosed_email@example.com (gfxguy)Sat, 10 Nov 2007 10:21:19 +0000 Re: Objects (for the film) designer.https://bthecollectors.runboard.com/p2429,from=rss#post2429https://bthecollectors.runboard.com/p2429,from=rss#post2429Welcome Welcome Welcome !!!! As you can probably tell, we're all big fans of your work. I was so enamored by the series that I began to attempt to recreate some of the objects. I'd love to hear what you think of them. nondisclosed_email@example.com (paulv70)Sat, 10 Nov 2007 10:01:40 +0000 Re: Objects (for the film) designer.https://bthecollectors.runboard.com/p2426,from=rss#post2426https://bthecollectors.runboard.com/p2426,from=rss#post2426Ok, I’ll start off with something not too pointed. Did you have a guiding principle while making these props? It appears that both the magnifying glass and the eyeglasses are Bausch and Lomb. It appears that the comb is an Ace. The knife is obviously a Kamp King. Of course the shoe polish is Shinola (I know sh*t from Shinola). The foot powder is Dr. Scholl’s. Your choices seem to reflect a certain mindset. One might call it minimalist Americana, but that is just groping. Did you have any sort of guiding principle? Did anyone say, “Eddie McCleister is going to be the most regular guy imaginable?” nondisclosed_email@example.com (Spikosauropod)Sat, 10 Nov 2007 03:43:08 +0000 Re: Objects (for the film) designer.https://bthecollectors.runboard.com/p2425,from=rss#post2425https://bthecollectors.runboard.com/p2425,from=rss#post2425Thanks for having me. The show was an amazing experience and I was allowed a lot of creative expression by the production designer Keith Neeley ( a very cool guy by the way). All of the printed objects were completely original and a lot of discussion as to their nature took place before I designed them. The prop master Ben Lowney had a lot of his own ideas about the "solid" objects - comb, scissors, radio, etc. I would be happy to answer any specific question you all may have if I can. --Stevenondisclosed_email@example.com (gfxguy)Sat, 10 Nov 2007 01:41:28 +0000 Re: Objects (for the film) designer.https://bthecollectors.runboard.com/p2423,from=rss#post2423https://bthecollectors.runboard.com/p2423,from=rss#post2423You are very welcome here. We owe you a great deal. You will soon discover that we have accumulated a terrifying archive of information about your props. I have a dozen questions right off, but they can wait. What sorts of things can you tell us? Can you discuss the inspiration behind the props? Can you discuss how they were actually manufactured? Can you tell us details about visible objects: their size, make, model, etc? Our site, as you may know, is filled with debates about these things. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Spikosauropod)Sat, 10 Nov 2007 00:03:40 +0000 Objects (for the film) designer.https://bthecollectors.runboard.com/p2422,from=rss#post2422https://bthecollectors.runboard.com/p2422,from=rss#post2422Hello everyone.
