Re: Somebody explain this.

…but back to aliens and perfume.

I understand now that you buy perfume based on its performance rather than its packaging. Perhaps most women do. But a perfume manufacturer would not want their marketing scheme to be a stumbling block to potential consumers. If they package it in a bottle labeled alien and advertise it with a girl who is clearly supposed to be from another planet, they must intend for women to relate to this. They must be hoping, however naively, that women will identify with the alien girl. In short, they must be hoping that women will secretly identify with a space monster and find some positive reinforcement within this identification.

Honestly, I can imagine how this identification would work. A space monster is very mysterious. It is, perhaps, more mysterious than anything known to the human imagination. Most people who believe in angels and ghosts also believe that we have actually encountered them. The vast majority of reputable scientists dismiss them as fantasy. Creatures from other planets are different. Most reputable scientists believe they must exist, but no reputable scientist believes we have ever actually met one or have the slightest idea what one would be like. The fact that most reputable scientists believe they must exist but also believe that no one has ever encountered one makes them very mysterious.

What I find surprising is that Thierry Mugler has arrived at the conclusion that a significant percentage of women will embrace the mystery of a creature from another planet as something they want to be equated with. These would be women who do not see themselves as being merely of another race or even another species. To our knowledge, it is entirely possible that creatures from another planet reproduce with something other than DNA. If they have DNA, it could conceivably twist in the opposite direction. Creatures from another planet could be more different from us than we are different from plants. The question is this: are there really women who see themselves in such a light?

yes they don't do such a bottle without thinking of a selling strategy. "Alien coming from space" is the domain of the dream, of fantasy, like the luxury product is part of dream of some women too, with this perfume they give you a part of this dream, the smell of an alien.
And there is more and more fan of science fiction who are women...i like science fiction...but in fact compares to other women i am an alien emoticon maybe it's a perfume for me ;-)
perfume in general is a part of dream, because of the price i can't buy a lot of perfume, and when you buy some, you buy dream...with the label on it, the name, the bottle, i lied in fact i choiced a perfumed because of the bottle: i saw the perfume on tv...this one:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sSgyYYpBT3c
i saw it a lot of time without really watching it...and one day...as i was looking for a fruity perfume, i said: hey this woman is climbing on a pile of apples!!!! and the bottle is an APPLE!! this perfume smell like apple? the next day i was on the perfume store, i put a bit of the perfume on a little piece of papier and bring it at home. I was walking around my husband talking about the perfume...luckily he was playing to "call of duty" and i has no munition left and the russian were cheating, and suddently he said to me!! stop walking around with this piece of paper and go buy your perfume!! i am loosing here!!! hihihihi
so maybe women that like science fiction buy Mugler perfume 'cause of the bottle...who knows! it's marketing!

I like the apple. I almost feel like buying another bottle of perfume. Maybe I will start a perfume collection. I will be the envy of women everywhere!

The mystique of the apple is much easier to understand. This one is for women who identify with Eve and taking the forbidden fruit. The interesting thing is that this Eve doesn’t just take the fruit. She runs boldly into the garden, climbs right up a heap of apples, and briskly grasps the fruit. This woman is shameless!

The woman who buys Alien sees herself as mysterious and obscure to an extreme. The woman who buys the apple sees herself as boldly embracing sin.

yes i would be nice if you start a perfume collection. I see you like an enchanter, with perfumes wich are magic potion, and with those potions you will be able to attract all the women you want!! emoticon
i thought of you last day because i saw that there is a new perfume that women can customized themselves as they like, and all the women seemed to be very happy to do such a thing, so maybe you are right: women attach importance to the bottle.
i use to go on a fashion forum and i will asked for you if the bottle is important for them when they buy a perfume.
ps: Nooooo i am not a sinner!!! i just want to seduce my husband, like Eve tried to seduce Adam with the apple! emoticon

Re: Somebody explain this.

I have been tracking Nina perfume on eBay. A seller in Chicago has been regularly selling 80 ml bottles for about $30. That seems cheap to me; but Nina is a perfume for younger women, so that is to be expected. These are funny auctions to watch, because the bidders are so naïve. Believe me, I am tempted to jump in and snipe one of those apples. That bottle really is appealing…so ripe and round and juicy and red! This, of course, is materialism in its very basest form.

I suspect that if you asked the women in your fashion forum how influenced they are by a bottle, they would say, “Very little.” Unfortunately for your experiment, not everyone is in touch with their feelings and motivations, regardless of how much they may believe they are. You may not learn a thing.

It didn’t occur to me that I was suggesting you are a sinner. I would apologize for that, but you don’t seem to be offended…perhaps more intrigued.

A perfume for men? I am eccentric but, alas, not a metrosexual. If I ever do work the magic you have suggested, it will have to be with other than fragrance. No matter: as I have alluded to before there is no woman in my allotment. A jealous and demanding goddess has her mark on my head and she can never be denied.

30$ for 80ml it's cheap
but be careful! are you only interessted by the bottle or by the smell too?
because i don't know if you know, but a perfume change with time, because of the light (that's why it's important to let the bottle sheltered from the light. maybe this seller on has the perfume since a long time, and the smell passed, maybe not, but you have to know that the smell of a perfume change and passed away with time.

I would be buying it only for the bottle…and the mystique of what it potentially contains inside. But I think I will pass this time. Something else has come up that I genuinely need, and the bidding could get quite high on it.

I was looking over your site last night. You are definitely an artist. Why do you do it? Do you plan to sell your art? Do you presently sell your art? Are you driven by a vision? Do you just like to draw? Do you know how many readers you have? You have an awful lot going on with your blog and all its connections. How do you find time for us?

"I was looking over your site last night. You are definitely an artist. "

thanks!! emoticon

"Why do you do it?":

i don't know, i always drawn. When i was young i just reproduced the pictures that i liked, i said to myself that if i apply i can have all the picture i want because i will be able to reproduce them.
Now i do it because i like it, the pleasure to do something with application. it's a need. I am in a bad time now and i am blocked, because i am worry about my health. I used to draw at night, i used to go to bed very late like 5am or more. Now i take tranquillizer for the pain and it's make me sleep earlier like an old lady. I liked to work at night because there is no sound around, no music except mine, there is no phone, and i have done everything in the house so i can concentrate on drawing. it's hard for me to draw in the afternoon...that's strange. i hate to be like that!

" Do you plan to sell your art?":

If someone wants something i can sell it, but i am too shy to propose my drawings, they are not good enought to pretend to be sold.

"Do you presently sell your art? ":

No. Nobody ask really. People wants in fact to give them drawing for free. i am no looking for a job...sometimes little job are coming to me.
i just received yesterday a proposition to make a test for a job, but it's all the time the same thing, they are always in a hurry: 15 days to make 120 drawings... emoticon it's hard...it's for a book of tinker about, and the illustrator has to make drawings of the different steps. paid around 5000 usd (in fact 3500 euros)...but i am not sure of the "style" of drawing they want...and 15 days it's hard for me, 8 pictures by day...pffff

"Are you driven by a vision? ":

I don't have a goal, or a concept, i draw what i feel at the moment, maybe something i saw on tv make me think of a drawing...i don't really know.
sometimes i dream that i am visiting a beautiful exposition of an artist i don't know, and in the dream i found his work so beautiful and i was full of regret because i did not have such beautiful ideas...and you know what? when i wake up i remember nothing, no paintings! all the beautiful paintings i saw in my dream just fade. so sad! I am working on my dreams, on my site i put some of them, i try to analyse them, it's help me a lot to understand some things about myself.

"Do you just like to draw? ":

somethimes yes it's just the pleasure to draw to make clean hatchings for exemple.

"Do you know how many readers you have?":

yes i put a code on my site to see how many people go to my site everydays, and the path they used to come to me...generally like that:
Image
"You have an awful lot going on with your blog and all its connections. How do you find time for us?"(i have all the time i want, you forgot? i have the comb now! hihihi emoticon)

because i don't work because i am ill, i think the name in english is Irritable Bowel Syndrome, i only go out to shop for foods, sometimes perfumes emoticon it's very tiring, and it's very crippling, because i am afraid to go out because i am afraid to be ill outside of my home. at the time i am writing i just finishing to be ill, i am tired, my tummy hurts and my nerves have gone in pieces, i cryed maybe to much so i better go to bed.
So because i am at home, i have time for all my passions, and you are one. i am like a butterfly flying around, i am interested in a lot of things, maybe to much!
i am never bored, luckily! because of my illness my life is a bloody awful.
so thanks the lost room, thanks drawings, thanks all of you, you make me feel better, at least in my head. i you make me practice my english!

You were asking earlier if there is anything I wanted from France. It turns out that there is.

I need a French artist’s touch on this:

Work in Progress

I have been working on this for some time now, but I can’t get Mabel’s dress right. I think the whole thing will work if I can just sharpen up her dress, but this seems to be beyond my skill set. Could you give it a go? We can call it the Marieaunet-Spikosauropod collaboration. You may clean up anything else you think you can improve upon. I still need to add in the tinsel on the Christmas tree, but that will be easy. Once we are done, everyone will have access to a nice sharp version of the photograph of Eddie and Mabel.

If you think you can do something with it, PM your email address and I will send the best resolution copy of this that I have.
