Somebody explain this.

I encountered this during my miscellaneous eBay searches. Can someone explain it to me? What sort of person would buy this?

That is sort of my point. But if you would buy it, that answers my question. I guess a bottle that looks Vulcan and is called “alien” is not as challenging to women as I had supposed.

I don't think men are quite as into the smelly stuff as women. i used to buy all that nasty cologne but now i mostly use Axe deodorant. But I am also a lonely hermit who doesn't go clubbing, or to bars, or anywhere past the grocery store or book store. Plus I'm pretty oblivious. So...lol

i don't care of the bottle, it's the perfume that interest me emoticon and in fact i found this bottle very ugly.
my actual perfume is "Nina" by Nina Ricci, and the bottle is an apple, the color of the perfume is a sweet red, and it's a fruity (can we say that?) perfume.
i have also a little bottle (too expensive for me) of "c'est la fête" by Christian Lacroix, the bottle shape is a real heart blue and green...
but i do not choose the perfume because of the bottle. sure not!
first: the smell: waiting one day after trying it on me, to see if it's give me headache...and after the price! never the bottle... emoticon

did you see this beautiful movie " Perfume: The Story of a Murderer" adaptation of the roman of Suskind?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perfume:_The_Story_of_a_Murderer_(film)/ a great movie!

So you haven’t answered my question after all. You would not buy this perfume based on the bottle, but it is obviously the name and the bottle they are marketing. What woman would buy an expensive perfume that looks and sounds like a science fiction prop?

marketing doesn't work on me...maybe i am an alien myself emoticon i only buy a parfume because of the smell.
but i am sure some woman can buy parfume because it's THE parfume of the time, even if the bottle is ugly; and i am sure even if the smell taste not so good, if she is a fashion addict.

I can sure relate to that. Of course it saves me a lot of money.

I would venture that marketing does not work on very many of us on this site. The way we have been getting “objects” that are priceless to us for pennies while those selling them appear oblivious to our agenda is proof enough. We keep thinking that we have become a market, only to discover that nothing could be further from the truth. When I finally bought “the scissors” they cost me much less than they would have cost when they were first manufactured and sold as just “scissors”. I would have gladly paid $500 for them. Yet, I got them in mint condition for $9.99 plus shipping. Go figure!

But back to my question. It would be a strange gamble for Thierry Mugler to package a perfume, even a wonderful perfume, in a way that repels their clientele. Yet, they seem to have done exactly that. What am I missing? Are there a bunch of women out there who want to be perceived as space monsters? Is the world filled with Serleena wannabees?

Incidentally, I read the synopsis of Perfume: The Story of a Murderer. What a curious film this must be! I don’t know if I could sit through it, but it is definitely unique.
