I distressed my Key fob

I like this key because the font and image are more screen accurate:

but I wanted it to be weathered so it would be even more accurate like so:

so I took a metal pick and a very light grade sanding block and carefully sanded it til I got this:

What do you guys think?

Excellent ! I like it ...it looks beat which is proper considering how much use a motel key gets daily.

I used the eraser on The Pencil to weather mine. I'll post a pic later of it !

The key is something we've been trying to identify for some time now. I'm hoping the one I'm getting as part of the press kit I just bought is a match for it as the seller promised.

If it is the right key, I'll post as many pics as I can and do as much research as necessary to track them down.

Perhaps it may be possible to have copies made (recast) from the one I get.

Courage Camille. I'll keep you guys updated.

Thanks Chuckles for the tip about the eraser. I used mine to smooth over some of the scratch marks the sanding block made and think it's much better.

God I wish these guys had ordered yellow instead of gold. I've tried twice to repaint these but the detail is just to intricate.

[sign in to see URL] eraser works very good ! it was a shot in the dark when I first tried it and it worked perfect !

[sign in to see URL] step back about the key...

The Key is either gold or silver depending on the shot so which key are we talking about here ??

My guess is that many different keys were used with many fobs while shooting the show and nailing down the EXACT key will be next to impossible considering local key shops use the same blanks but punch different names and logos into them on a custom basis.

I am of the belief that the correct shape is the most important, color second and markings third on the key.

Key Chuckle

Nifty, a key chuckle!

See Founder Bunny, there will be things for us to do until we have every detail of every object nailed down and every object in our possessions.

I am of the opinion that all the keys are silver and that the appearance of brass coloring is a result of lighting. However, we have moved well beyond basic methods of verification. I recommend that we all get our DVD's fired up and get to work on this problem.

I must admit I am rather taken by G-man's chromatic approach. The color of the key will be relative to the color of nearby objects such as the key fob.
