New TV shows

Heroes returned Monday with it's special brand of confusion. This is a show that takes away all the tights and capes and leaves us with a little more appreciation for the world around us. This season should stack up to be the best.

Journeyman started Monday. Now with a show dealing with the premise of time travel we hear a collective sigh. It has the scent of Quantum Leap on it. A man traveling through time to help others and change the future for the better. However, upon closer look the show has thrown a few wrenches in that stereotype. It will hopefully be a show to contend with this season.

Reaper. What can I say about this comedy? It's too soon to tell. The first episode is one that tries to throw down enough background to keep us interested. This show of a slacker whose soul is sold to the devil and becomes his bounty hunter, seems like a decent premise. However this idea was done a few years ago in a show called Brimstone. Maybe adding the element of comedy may keep this show around long enough to have a second season but it's too soon to tell.

The Bionic Woman starts tonight. Now I have a problem with rehash of old shows unless they are done with a new vigor. This show seems to be one that may wash away the old images of slowmotion running and the ever present nuh-nuh-nuh of bionics. This is one I am going to keep an eye on closely.

Smallville and Supernatural will be starting again and as a viewer of these shows since season one i look forward to the new seasons.

Doctor Who. This is one of my all time favorite shows. A show that has been around before Start Trek but due to it being overseas, having a sometimes laughable special effects and being geared for children this new adaption of the show is energetic and ready to take us into the future of television.

Torchwood, this spin off of Doctor Who is darker and a little more gritty. But it is going to be something worth a watch.

The new Flash Gordon has left me a little empty. It's got a nice new look to it. A new concept of travel between Earth and Mongo. It has that Smallville feel to it but is having trouble getting on it feet with me. I'll just keep watching.

I'd like to hear the Collectors opinion on some of these shows. We all may be for lost in The Lost Room but we should pay a little homage to the shows that inspired the rest.

Re: New TV shows

Heroes—I just can’t bring myself to watch it.

Journeyman started Monday—I meant to watch that but missed it. I definitely plan to give it a whirl.

Reaper—Heven't seen it.

The Bionic Woman—I’m going to give that a shot. Like you, I am skeptical of any remake (the new Battlestar Galactica put me to shame on that point).

Smallville—just not into super heroes

Doctor Who—Really great, but I missed a lot of it after they switched Doctors because that kind of messed it up for me.

Torchwood—Never heard of it. I will look into that one.

The new Flash Gordon—How could they even think it! Didn’t they use to lynch people for that? Isn’t it still legal in some states? Is it possible to set your TV to skip over the SciFi channel just during that time period to eliminate any chance of accidentally catching a glimpse? Since TLR showed on that same channel, is there any possibility of cross-contamination? Eww…eww…god…why did you have to say it. Now I will have to take a shower and gargle before I can get anything done. After I am done typing this, I will have to sanitize my keyboard. Hey, wait a minute…I am a moderator. Paul, can I delete this post? No…that probably won’t do. It has spread everywhere now. What about DDT? There is an environmental risk, but surely in this case!

Oh well. It is sort of like a stubbed toe. It hurts the most right after it happens. The pain is starting to fade now. Wait…I can’t remember what I just wrote. Something tells me that I should never reread it.

Now, here is my take on the latest Sci-fi. The two great achievements of the 21st century are Battlestar Galactica and TLR. Battlestar Galactica resumes in 2008, and will be over and gone too soon. Once that is gone there will be a big hole in my life. Unless Chris and his buddies get on the ball and make more TLR there may be nothing but years of depression. Maybe, just maybe, someone is preparing a new Star Trek series, but I am not betting on it.

Love Heroes! - They really present the whole "ordinary people with extradordinary powers" bit very well. I'm curious about the different look of the show. So much of the first season seemed to be influenced by Tim Sale who did Isaac's paintings. Killing off Isaac may have a similar effect as changing the background music or hiring a different director. The show also has some good mysteries in it but they don't drag em out, unlike another show I used to love that I've completely LOST interest in.

Jouneyman - Quantum Leap clone, not gonna watch it.

Bionic Woman - Saw the first episode last night and was not impressed.

Smallville - I loves me superhero shows but this thing started off as a bad soap and it's been steadily declining since. If I see one more episode where Lana mopes around until someone knocks her down sending her to the hospital where Clark has to fight be hide is feelings from her I'm just gonna lose it. Best Smallville moment for me was Christopher Reeve's appearance.

Dr. Who - Love it! I really liked the first Dr. but the new guy does it very well. I don't get to see them too often but I find them consistantly entertaining.

Flash Gordon? Flush Gordon! and flush you SciFi for picking up that p.o.c. instead of a TLR series.

Hang in there Spike. You never know what's coming around the corner.

Heroes: LOVE IT !! I never miss an episode !

Prison Break: LOVE IT !! It's a great series and keep you guessing all the time....!!

Eureka: LOVE IT !! I love the idea of a "Top Secret" town where the geniuses of our world live in. Great story lines and some campy humour to boot !!

______________________________________________

Journeyman: Quantum Leap clone. Bleech !!!

Bionic Woman: yawnnn !!!!

Smallville: Pretty teen superheroes = yawnnn !!!!

Dr.Who: I am a fan of the Tom Baker days and do not like the new shows as much. Where the hell is k-9 anyway ??

Flash Gordon: gag me !! super-hurl factor on that one.

Reaper: man do they make original shows anymore ?? this show is a "Dead like Me" clone and ripoff.

Forgot about Eureka. Now that's a great and inventive show.

Anyone heard about the Heroes spinoff, "Origins"? Kevin Smith is slated to direct it. I'm not a big fan of spinoffs but it could work.

Eureka is a great show. The Bionic woman was awesome last night.
Moonlight comes on Friday at 9PM.
It's another vampire-cop type show. I'll watch it but I'm not holding my breath.

I forgot about Eureka. I have caught a couple of episodes of that, and it is pretty good. For some reason the whole scenario is just too “cute” for my tastes. Where I went to school they would have called the coffee shop “Café Diem”. That whole, “look at us, we’re a bunch of intellectuals” thing just gives me the icks.

OK, I’ve seen the premier of Bionic Woman, Chuck, and Journeyman.

Bionic woman surprised me. I am somewhat intrigued by the mystery they have presented. Besides, I liked that line, “Heads you loose…tails you’re dead.”

Chuck was a bad remake of a bad initial idea: Jake 2.0 with a less plausible premise.

Journeyman is a bad remake of a so-so idea: Quantum Leap with a less interesting premise.

Why do they keep doing this? Why are the people in charge of our entertainment incapable of an original thought!

Yeah that's what I thought about Chuck too, bad Jake 2.0 ripoff.

Journeyman has my attention. It's slightly like Quantum Leap but there is more going on there.

The Bionic Woman was pretty good. They took the originals show premise and changed the whole dynamic of the show.

If you believe in Journeyman, I might give it a chance. I always regretted not following Stargate. I’m just a little turned off by the apparent drafting people to go back in time to do good deeds premise. But there could be more to it than that—I’m not holding my breath.
