The Toothbrush in Scientific American

I received this special issue of Scientific American and noticed that the toothbrush that is represented on the cover and throughout is The Toothbrush.

Why did they happen to settle on this particular shape?

Apparently, this is the "archetypal" toothbrush.

You know, I looked at the actual toothbrush again, and it really isn't that similar. The curve is in a different place.
