I went to the same thrift store the next day (Wednesday) and found this. It said Travelodge on the bottom, but I painfully and slowly sanded that off and re-polished the glass.
Travelodge ?!! I have The EXACT same ashtray !!! got it on ebay cheap !! so you had to sand off the logo huh? I tried every chemical known to man and not one would take it off....please tell me in detail the exact process you used to sand off the logo and polish the glass.....for I need to do the same to mine.

Re: Ashtray
I just come from ebay to purchase a travelodge ashtray.
I can honestly say "I'd buy that for a dollar..."

Re: Ashtray
I can’t honestly recommend my method. Basically, I just sanded the print off with fairly coarse sandpaper. It literally took hours. Then I sanded it with micro grain sandpaper. Then I scrubbed it frantically for hours with silver/glass polish. I thought I had it, but when I looked at it today in better light, I could see that the glass was still scuffed. One last note—I was able to get rid of the rest of the scuffing by spraying it with a coat of clear gloss. That seemed like sacrilege to me, but I guess it’s not really different from the stuff window repair shops use to fix small cracks. If you can get hold of some of that stuff, it might be better.
If you can get the print off with a chemical, I would recommend that. But if you still like my method, I recommend finding a comfortable chair and sitting before the TV.
One last note. I was able to get the glass pretty well cleaned up with fine sand paper. There must be some abrasive out there that can polish glass. Lense makers and eyeglass makers must use something. All I can find by looking online is what amounts to cleaner. There must be an abrasive that actually polishes glass.

Re: Ashtray
One more chapter in the ongoing saga of the ashtray. I looked at it today and there was almost imperceptible beading of the gloss I sprayed on. I sanded it again with the micro abrasive sand paper and then buffed it with a piece of toilet paper; then I sprayed it again. This time it looks almost perfect. Unfortunately, I could never wash it or it would look scuffed again. I'm up to about fifteen man-hours on this ashtray.
It just occurred to me: I work with an optometry instructor, and I still need to turn in grades for some of his students. I’ll bet he knows how to polish glass!

Re: Ashtray
On my ashtray what I did was sand off the travelodge logo with 220grit sandpaper.......then I taped off the bottom and sprayed it with clear gloss enamel. the whole process took <20 min and it looks great !
I felt that spending hours polishing the glass was not for me....so I sprayed it with the clear enamel after the sanding....it took away the white fog the sanding left and it saved hours of time ! hope this helps you all out !
