Re: Spikosaur Collection
Thanks to Founder Bunny, I now have the shoes:
This is very illustrative. Chuckles spent years studiously researching the shoes and narrowing down his results until he found what is indisputably the exact make and style. I delight in reproducing this account:
quote:
this is how I found them.....when I first started looking for them I searched for "black mens shoes" and that gave me about 1200 auctions to look at...maddening ! by adding in "oxford" it dwindled down to 900 hits.
after seeing the makes and styles of all the manufacturers I had a good idea that what I was seeing was getting me nowhere.....by now 2+yrs had gone by.
then I figured out the "split toe" feature and started hunting based on that......which still gave me over 600 auctions to look at.....UGGH !
by now I knew which manufacturers to exclude...so I did a search using the following as an example:
"split toe shoe -cole hann -nunn bush -allen edmonds -j crew...etc"
what I did was use the minus (-) wildcard on brands in searches...which filtered out all the brands I knew were not right.....which gave me about 150 auctions to look at.....and I checked each one ruling out the brand and adding it to the exclusion list if it did not appear right.....
then I hit paydirt with Pronto Uomo when I found a auction for a set of brown Oxfords with the correct side stitching but everything else was wrong, so that told me I was onto the right brand....so I searched their name and split toe and BLAMMO ! I found the correct shoes !
(big yawhooo! inserted here)
all that took 3 years ! it was a huge learning curve & headache ! personally I never want to do that again....but of course I will if it concerns an Object !!
Then he found my pair. I was looking, but he found them first and marked them for me. Then, I acquired them for $10.50 + shipping.
This is illustrative of a general philosophical observation. You never want to take anything in life for granted. The plastic pen you use to take notes, the staples you use to bind paper, and the Kleenex you use to blow your nose—not to mention the complicated things like lawn mowers, microwave ovens, and computers—are all the end result of someone at some time searching and struggling for years to make it possible.
I acquired the shoes with little effort and at little expense, but only after someone else put in lots of thought and hundreds of man-hours.

Re: Spikosaur Collection
I wasn't going to get any furniture, but when an opportunity came up to obtain a perfect chair, I couldn't pass it up. This is actually parts from chairs obtained from two different sellers combined to make one perfect chair.

Re: Spikosaur Collection
I didn’t think to take pictures of the originals. I would have to take it apart and put it together again. However, when I get home, I think I can find the original pictures from the two sellers. One of the chairs was part of a pair and one of the chairs was part of a set of 5. I don’t even know for sure which chairs were sent. I only know what my specifications to the sellers were.

Re: Spikosaur Collection
Here are the sales images:
Here are some parts I replaced. One of the chairs had good legs and back but damaged vinyl. The other had good vinyl but faded legs and back:
I told each seller what I was after and offered them enough money to make it worth their while. I had no idea if they would say yes, but I fugured that since neither auction had received any bids they might be willing.
