About the Characters

Wally Jabrowski
(Peter Jacobson)

quote:

CHRIS (UGO interview)
I love Peter Jacobs, and I love Wally, and as a guy who kind of wants to keep the world away, and has this bus ticket that sends people away from him, I really loved that whole story and the whole effect. Also, how when Joe comes along with the key, the key is almost like the counter-act of the bus ticket. You know, here's the one guy in the world who keeps coming back.

quote:

CL (Bullseye interview): Yeah, I love …Joe’s relationship…with Wally. And the Weasel, especially. His comedy…especially Wally…there were times when it was, like, man, these guys could go on the road! Because there is a comic relationship with them…and an emotional one, too.

quote:

CL (Exclusive Q&A)
Wally was everyone’s favorite character in the script and it’s such a strange part. He’s funny on the surface but has something dark going on underneath. He’s a nomadic misanthrope, but he comes to be friends with Joe. But then Peter Jacobson just killed it, just blew us away.

Mabel Smith

quote:

CL (Exclusive Q&A)
Well, first to address the Mabel story specifically, that one is ironic just because is only similar to Mary from “It’s a Wonderful Life” by accident. Mabel wasn’t written as a librarian – in the original script Joe and Wally went to her house and stood on her porch. During production, the library location was scouted for a different scene that got cut. But the director loved the library location and wanted to shoot there, and production time was so insanely tight at that point it made sense to shoot there. So, at the last minute, Mabel became a librarian. Which turned out just fine, the scene turned out really well. But the connection to “It’s a Wonderful Life” never dawned on me until I read it online, although in hindsight it’s obvious. Even the name is Mabel is oddly close to Mary! I suppose without the librarian angle there’s some similarity been Mabel and Mary – they both have an alternate life with a husband they don’t remember. But alternate timelines have been done a million times -- I don’t know if people would make the connection to “It’s a Wonderful Life” without the librarian detail.

About the Objects

quote:

Peter Krause (popmatters article)
“The number of the Objects is pretty close to the number of elements in the periodic table,” says Krause. “You know, like hydrogen and oxygen, put them together then you’ve got H20, water, and then you’ve got sodium chloride, NaCl. Then you take a little hydrogen and a little chloride and you’ve got hydrochloric acid (HCl). The way that the Objects combine and what they make and what their powers are ... reveals the intelligence and the responsibility of the user of the Object.”

Yup. Just got back from the Totally Rad Show panel where we made the announcement. Well, after stopping at a bar.

Facts about the comic book:

1. There is a new Motel Man.

2. There is a new, powerful, and very weird Object revealed in the first issue.

3. The Weasel returns.

Ain't It Cool News picked up the story tonight:

And to answer Chuckles' questions:

Nope, looking now.

>Are you gonna go for super-realistic art or a more typical format ?

My references for art are CRIMINAL and PREACHER. Somewhere between those two styles.

>will it be a continuous series or will it run in batches ?

Batches.

>Is Paul Workman gonna be involved ?

Yeah, always. There is no Lost Room without Workman. Laura and I did most of our interviews at Comic Con between We Kill Monsters signings, so Paul wasn't there for the those, but yeah he's 100% involved.

>what will the frequency of issues be ? ( 1 a month, 1 every two months ? and so on)

Each batch will be on a monthly schedule, but there will be likely a few months break between batches. This is kind of an experiment for all involved, so everything will probably depend on sales...

Standalone asked:
quote:

In The Lost Room, Jennifer explains that the Legion exists to collect Objects - and destroy them so they won't bring further harm.

How is this possible? The Objects themselves are indestructible. (Except possibly within the Room, which I don't think the Legion could ever bank on...) Moreover, in the finale, the Occupant refers to a "Conservation of Objects" - saying that if an Object is destroyed, another one is created in its place.

Are the Legion a hopeless cause, or do they have some method of destroying/neutralizing Objects that wasn't made clear?

Paul Workman said:
quote:

No, they knew they couldn't destroy them, so they just wanted to get rid of them. Make them inaccessible. Hide them, bury them, shoot them into space, etc. They wanted to make sure that nobody could ever get to Objects, so that the Objects couldn't destroy any more lives.
