Why the Object powers are seemingly random?

If you could quess-work them, it would be boring.

quote:

From Popmatters Article

Christopher Leone:
Usually (the writing process) was thinking of a power and then finding an Object that just felt right.

I think it is important that it is arbitrary. I think what’s so interesting about it is - if you take an Object like the comb that stops time for 10 seconds, what are the limitations of it?

Because it only freezes time for 10 seconds, and there’s even limitations within that. You can only really use it to run and hide. So I think it becomes about tactics, about how people see this Object and think of a way that no one’s really thought of before.

quote:

From Popmatters Article
Peter Krause (Joe)

“The number of the Objects is pretty close to the number of elements in the periodic table”

“You know, like hydrogen and oxygen, put them together then you’ve got H20, water, and then you’ve got sodium chloride, NaCl. Then you take a little hydrogen and a little chloride and you’ve got hydrochloric acid (HCl). The way that the Objects combine and what they make and what their powers are ... reveals the intelligence and the responsibility of the user of the Object.”

Eddie did not create the Objects

quote:

paulworkman wrote:

I always thought that Eddie (the person) existed before the Event. He was instrumental in causing the Event (although accidentally). But he wasn't trying to create Objects -- the Objects were created by the Event, including Eddie. So Eddie wasn't created from scratch, but he was created *as an Object* by the Event.

At least, that's according to the explanation I had for the cause of the Event, as it may or may not have been revealed in a later episode. I won't reveal any more of it so as to not ruin it for you if we ever use it.

Well the cause of the Event was something we always figured would be revealed (if at all) at the end of many seasons on an ongoing series. So we never had the need to hammer it out as we would have for the miniseries.

And also we brought different sensibilities to TLR. Chris and Laura tended towards hardboiled stuff, Laura tended towards family dynamic stuff, and I tended towards weird and depressive stuff. (This is a gross oversimplification.) The Event explanation that I had in mind falls into the realm of the weird, and though I don't think we were necessarily in disagreement about it, I don't think we ever had to nail it down either. So take from that what you will.

What can you tell us about Eddie's background?
Was he just in the wrong place at the wrong time or is there more to his story?

quote:

CL: I am tempted to say “both.” I don’t want to reveal too much about Eddie, because his story is so intertwined with the origin of Room 10. I will say that Eddie was just an ordinary man, the same way that all the Objects were ordinary before the Event.

quote:

Did someone take a picture of Eddie in the room?

CL: The Polaroid was undeveloped. No one else took a picture – Eddie was the only person in the room. 'll say this:

it could have happened to anyone, anywhere, anytime. But it happened to Eddie in Room 10. I would liken it to accidentally detonating a nuclear bomb you discover under your bed. It is partly your fault -- it could not have exploded without you -- but it makes you more unlucky than special.

What was Eddie doing during The Event?

It appears, from the positioning of The Objects in the Polaroid-scene,
that Eddie was reading The Magazine with The Magnifying Glass.
]Read Ghinius Shahalin's great observations about Object positions during The Event

Howcome the Collectors found so many Objects, so fast?

quote:

Spikosauropod wrote:

We are never told this in the show, but I have theorized that the objects were originally concentrated in a small area around Gallup. At the beginning of the object’s history, there was no competition. It was only when a broader group of people came to seek them that they were spread around the world.

A similar phenomenon can be observed in our own cabal. For some reason the world at large is unaware of our agenda. If there is ever a news item about what we are up to, it will change everything. After that it will be impossible for anyone to assemble a complete object collection.

here's the answer plus a few more tidbits !!

Chucklbunny asked:

One more little query for [sign in to see URL] are the chances Eddie had a hat with him ? it seems to me that a gentleman from that time (early 60's) would have had a hat. Is it possible that there is The Hat Object ? and once again if there is one any idea what it might have looked like ? was it in the closet when the Event happened ?

[sign in to see URL] info can you give about The Towel.....I took a screenshot of Ruber's vision and you can see a towel on the rack in the [sign in to see URL] appears to be just a white [sign in to see URL] it an Object ? any idea what it does ?? and this leads me to a kinda weird
[sign in to see URL] must be a Toilet Paper Object correct ? (I am not sure I want to know how to activate [sign in to see URL]) but there must be one right ?

and The Mighty Creators reply:

Hey man--

I can't confirm or deny the Hat. I'm not just being coy here, there was a story point about this in one of the deleted episodes which might reappear one day...

Yes, there is a towel and there would definitely be a toilet paper object. Not revealing their powers though...

Always glad to help man, even if it's hardly any help at all!

--Chris

There 3 more for you all !!

-Camera?

Chucklbunny asked:

Is there an Camera Object ? did Eddie have a camera with him ?

and Chris's answer:

Ha! Well, you know there was unexposed Polaroid film in the [sign in to see URL] must have gone with something...

There you have it. The Camera IS an Object.

Chucklbunny asked:

Is The Paperclip is an Object ?

____________________________________________

And His reply:

The answer is a big YES, the Paperclip is not only an Object, it originally had its own episode. I hesitate to give away what it does though just yet -- still holding out hope that we can do more LOST ROOM stories in one format or another.

--Chris

NOW we [sign in to see URL] Paperclip IS an Object !!!

-Wedding Ring, wallet?

I asked yet another question of The Mighty Creator....

I have to ask about Eddie's Wedding [sign in to see URL] it an Object ??

How about The Wallet and it's [sign in to see URL] idea what was in The Wallet ?? cash ? licence ? Social security card ?? business cards ?? pictures ??

and his reply:

Yeah,
Eddie's Wedding Band is an Object, and actually appeared in some early drafts, but we weren't very satisfied with it, and as the story became more streamlined the wedding band was dropped. It was also hard to get past the obvious Lord of the Rings allusion -- every time the wedding band appeared in the script I wanted to say "One ring to rule them all!"

Still, if we ever do more LOST ROOM the Wedding Band will probably reappear.

quote:

Regarding the wallet, yeah anything Eddie had on him in the Motel Room was an Object. That includes his wedding band, his wallet, the contents of his wallet, etc. I'm not going to confirm or deny the contents but you already have a pretty good idea...

-Lighter?
-Confirmed

Chucklbunny wrote:

We know Eddie was a [sign in to see URL] had the cigs and a pack of matches from the motel on [sign in to see URL] was he carrying a lighter with him ?

charles

Hey Charles--

Man, I'm thoroughly impressed. Yeah, there is a Zippo lighter and it would play a big role in what's to come. The funny part is that I think we figured out that there would be a Zippo lighter through the exact same thought process.

What it looks like exactly we don't know yet. As most Objects in the room are mundane, it is probably a plain-jane lighter...

--Chris

-1961 Penny Object
-confirmed

quote:

Chucklbunny wrote:

I asked Chris about the change seen near The Pencil on the end [sign in to see URL] the question and answer....

Chucklbunny asked:
What coins were on the endtable?

Not sure this is 100% established. There's the Quarter, obviously.
I think I can say safely there's a 1961 Penny as well. There are some
other coins but exactly what type, what year, etc. hasn't been established.

So there you have [sign in to see URL] is a 1961 Penny Object !!

-The Belt?
-confirmed

quote:

Chucklbunny wrote:

from the transcripts of the show:

The Belt !!!!!

The Sood (who is wearing it) uses it to lay the smack-down on Joe and it's power is a "pain multiplier" and it's use is:

The wearer picks an intended target and inflicts pain upon himself and the target feels the pain but multiplied by a factor of 10 !

The Sood uses it in a deleted scene and bites his thumb hard causing Joe to feel it but much more intense ! then The Sood punches himself in the stomach which causes Joe to double over in pain !

Nasty Object !!

and Chris said this about The Belt Scene:

Oh man, I loved the Sood's belt scene! I hated it when we had to cut that.

The only bright side was that I like Peter's interaction with Pumeet through the window: "Can I make an appointment?" "No!"

What happened to Eddie after The Event?

Is Eddie All-Knowing?

quote:

from Comic Con interview:

Ghinius: I thought it would be nice to get some history and asked about the occupant and would they like to go into what happened with him when he got out of the motel.

And they said “Well the occupant is not all knowing but does know quite a bit”

and I inserted “well he had the opportunities to find out what some objects did without effecting himself”

and they replied “yes so he knows quite a bit about the objects but not even he knows everything”
