posticon Collectors Exclusive Q&A With Christopher Leone!

Chris (who is the co-creator and executive producer of The Lost Room) has graciously agreed to answer 10 questions from our cabal!

Here's da deal. Each member can post one question in this thread. Chucklebunny, Spike and I will pick the 10 best ones to submit.

All questions must be posted by 12:00 am, EST on September 1st to be considered for submission. Chris will be working on the responses along with fellow Lost Room creators Laura Harkcom and Paul Workman. Remember, he may not be able to give direct answers to some questions so don't even bother asking "What was the event?" He ain't gonna spill that. Also, do not offer any suggestions or ideas because legally he cannot accept them.

Ok everybody, put your thinking caps on and enter your questions!

Hello Chris and thank you to everyone involved in creating this marvelous mini-series!

My question is: Was the choice for room numbers affected at all by cabalistic/tarot perceptions of 9s and 10s (in tarot for example, the 10s of suits are not generally good cards, 9s represent the best that can be hoped for in the suits while remaining in some sort of overall balance with other areas of life and realistic goals within the suit, while 10s generally represent going one step too far, obsessional pursuits or acquisitions that destroy other life areas and cannot even be realistically attained/maintained within the suit).

ok here my question for Chris:
_____________________________________________

Chris....can you explain the Gallup Polaroid's existence to me. Did the Occupant (eddie) have an undeveloped Polaroid with him ?? Did someone take that pic of him in the room ?? if he had the polaroid with him why would he have an undeveloped picture with him or was it in a camera that we don't know about yet ?

or did Eddie have the polaroid with him (already developed and taken of something else) and did the event change the picture into an undeveloped polaroid that shows room 10 during the event ?

_____________________________________________

Thanks Chris, Laura and Paul for your time and the fantastic jobs you did in creating The Lost Room....best mini-series ever by far !!

Re: Collectors Exclusive Q&A With Christopher Leone!

Hi Chris,

As a result of collecting the objects, I have gotten the distinct impression that the person who originally gathered them was in love with vintage “things”, especially utilitarian things. Moreover, they seem to have been somewhat of a connoisseur of such things. Not just any pair of scissors would do, but only a pair of scissors that had a certain appealing shape. Not just any shot glass would do, but only a depression era raindrop optic shot glass. Not just any knife would do, but only a classic black Kamp King knife. Not a red pencil or a blue pencil or a carpenter’s pencil, but a good old yellow No. 2 pencil. I can almost envision a person who would hold a pair of nail clippers in their hand and marvel at their form and function as one might marvel at a Picasso sculpture or an Escher lithograph. Would you care to comment on this?

Thank you Chris, Laura, and Paul for doing this. I sure hope you are working on a sequel!

What can you tell us about Eddie? Was he just in the wrong place at the wrong time or is there more to his story?

Ok...I'm gonna ask another question:

Chris.....how would one use such Objects as The Pack of Cigarettes or The Matchbook or even The Bar of Soap ??

they are all sealed shut and indestructible so how do you smoke a cig if you cannot rip open the cellophane ?? and you cannot rip out a match and strike it so how to use it is ?? the bar of soap is sealed too so how do you use it to activate its power ??

can you explain these Objects and their use ??

also...can you elaborate and describe any Object Powers we do not yet know ?? (i.e. the shoe polish.....the foot powder....the iron....etc...)

Thanks So much !!

Hi Chris,

This is my second question.

As you know, our forum is dedicated to collecting the objects depicted in the “The Lost Room”. One can not escape the impression that this miniseries was designed around the idea of inspiring such a scavenger hunt. I have even read speculation—shallow and ill-considered speculation I might add—that the whole thing was intended as a launching for a video game. When you were creating “The Lost Room”, did it ever occur to you that it could lead to a scavenger hunt similar to the one we are on? Were you, perhaps, hoping to generate interest in vintage collectables? I should add that looking for these objects has been a real education. It has greatly increased my knowledge and sensitivity to these sorts of things.

Thank you guys all again for doing this. Make that sequel!

Re: Collectors Exclusive Q&A With Christopher Leone!

Hi Chris,

This is my third question.

It seems evident that many of the ideas in “The Lost Room” were adapted from other movies, TV shows, etc. The best example of this is Mabel. She is almost certainly adapted from Mary Hatch in It’s a Wonderful Life. It seems as if you consciously took these scenarios and depicted them from a different perspective. Was this deliberate, was it a sort of “stream of consciousness” thing, or is it just a coincidence?

Well…we are keeping you from work on that sequel. Can’t let that happen.

Thank you all again.

Hi Chris,

This is my fourth question.

A curious aspect of “The Lost Room” is that it seems so serious. Somehow or other you were able to create a drama involving magical house wares that do ridiculous things and make it seem serious. Was this hard to do? Did you have any trouble getting the actors to take it seriously? Did you have any trouble editing the scenes so that they do not seem utterly ridiculous? How were you able to take the trappings of another Bed knobs and Broomsticks and turn it into a drama for adults?

Thank you again. OK…back to producing that sequel.
