posticon The Shaving Mirror

Well here is The Shaving Mirror that I recently got off ebay:

--Log in or sign up to see linked image content--

The Shaving Mirror came in a grooming kit that was not show correct ... except for the [sign in to see URL] pic in the mirror was a shot of just some [sign in to see URL] one famous.

I took pics of the mirror side but got weird flash reflections in them and they looked like crap so I just went with the Olivia side.

If all mirrors are the same then they are 3 1/4" X 4 1/4".

I thought about trying to make the same crack in the mirror as the show one but thought better of it and chose not [sign in to see URL] will have another mirror cut and I will scratch out a line in the coating to emulate the [sign in to see URL] should look reasonably real.

Wow, you really slipped that one out. I had no idea you were stalking a mirror.

Good job!

lololol ! lmao !!

I stalk EVERY Object ! when I get a nibble in my searches I follow the [sign in to see URL] just happened to see the mirror in a grooming kit auction and jumped on it. I figure if I have to piece out the grooming kit I [sign in to see URL] doubt the kit from the show came exactly like [sign in to see URL] was probally a conglomerate of various pieces found in various places to form a complete kit.

The crack does not show in all of the mirror pics. I faquely recollect someone one day (Jess?) to say it was actually part of electric wire showing on the reflection.

In any case a hair clued on will look just like a crack.

Re: The Shaving Mirror

In any case, if you decide to try and "crack" the mirror for real, then you should take few things into consideration:

1) Be very VERY sure there are no particles on the mirror: no dust and NO breadcrums or anything under and below the mirror.

2) have a piece of thick cardboard or small grinded stryrox as a working pad. It is a NECESSITY to have NO PRESSUREpoints upon which the mirror would crack randomly.

3) go get yourself a DIAMOND mirror cutting blade OR a thin edged diamond file

4) go with from middle to the edge and be sure to LIFT pressure a bit near the edge.

You can make yourself a guiding line/ crack safety with two duct-tape pieces, placed carefully leaving the area open you wish to encarve.

5) DO NOT hone back-and-forth, do all cutting/carving with same direction. Doing back-and-forth usually causes the mirror to "explode" aka shatter to zillion pieces.

6) remember, mirror, like glass, likes to shatter easier, if there is a point of a crack or a beginning for a crack. So go around the mirror with P1200 - 1400 WETsanding paper, to make sure tiny tiny cracks on the edge will cause the mirror to shatter on the wrong place.

make sure you wash all residue away before and during the cutting.

BUT remember: A glass likes to be cutted dry, honed wet!

Any good glass cutter should be able to reproduce the crack for real.
