Suggestion for an Ebay bidding policy for Cabal members
I know none of us want to get into a situation where we're bidding against a fellow member and if I saw Spike was bidding on something I wouldn't. However, since many of us like to try to grab stuff at the last minute maybe it would be a good idea to put up a post declaring intentions to bid.
For example, I've already bidded on an plan to win this bible.
Thoughts anyone?

Great Idea ! I will follow that suggestion ! That way no ones toes get stepped on.
When I post links to auctions I do it with the intention of a member getting it.

Re: Suggestion for an Ebay bidding policy for Cabal members
I like that idea, but I can see all sorts of technical problems.
If we post our intention to bid on an item and provide a link to it, we tip off lurkers who are not members of the cabal and who don't feel accountable to other members.
Lots of us will feel like we have to rush to post our intention to bid on something so that someone else will not post it first. That could get out of hand.
The simplest way I can think of to do this is if we always do just like you have done: post a minimum bid early so that if another cabal member stumbles onto it, they will know we intend to bid. Anyone who wants to post that sort of claim should make sure everyone knows their bidding name (if it is different from here). They can inform other members of their bidding name with a PM. We should have an informal understanding that no one will post more than one early bid on any particular object at one time. We will all understand that just because someone has been outbid this does not mean they have bailed out. If they want to bail out, they should then post a link to the item and declare that they do not plan to win it—like chuckles often does. By that time, posting a link probably won’t do any harm, since the competition has apparently already gotten out of hand.
Once someone posts an auction here, they should be considered free to enter an early bid on the same object in a different auction.
This will be hardest for me. You know I never bid early if I plan to win!
A simple rule of thumb: to claim an item, place a bid; but don't bid against a recognized cabal member.

And check the bidders history to see if a Cabal member has already placed a bid.

Works for me. Besides, I have developed the habit of being a bid sniper/buy only type of ebayer.

Re: Suggestion for an Ebay bidding policy for Cabal members
Should I write this up in some kind of formal way so that you can post it as a sticky topic? Once I write it, we can start discussing the finer points and editing it until we get it exactly the way we want it.
Another thing: should there be a sticky topic or even a separate category for the store? Lots of new people coming here may never have heard of the store. If we do that, we will want to make sure to include information about which items seem to print best. Otherwise newcomers might just assume that it is all good.

Re: Suggestion for an Ebay bidding policy for Cabal members
What about an "Attention new members" sticky thread in The Motel Room area where we welcome new members, detail the Ebay suggested policy and announce the store?
