Re: new to The Motel Room
Letter Opener has a speculated status, it does not appear in the room pictures, although I recall it is mentioned in the Legion's list, which contains couple things we KNOW to not be Objects

Re: new to The Motel Room
Just opened the package with the 1950 Eagle key Catalog. After comparing locks and keys the closest match appears to be a type of lock found on a wood desk. I will post images later. It appears the 612A falls under a style of eagle key that is linked to a lock, but not exacted model number. As usual: Maddening
This might be the reason the key itself hasn't shown up on Ebay. As it is a 3rd party part in a piece of Furniture, if that is actually the case, it would be way harder to find. If some wood desk company bought from Eagle in the late 50s then somehow finding that connection might be helpful. No idea how one would go about that.
Sorry I couldn't find the smoking gun. I got one last hope a Eagle Catalog from 1956 or 1957. As for now I will be searching for eagle desk lock.
oh yes the numbers:
11425B pin tumbler key blank
(the only key in the group that does end in a 90 degree angle)
Eagle NO. 03210 Drawer lock
key blank No. 11305B

Re: new to The Motel Room
I will be properly amazed if you find a lock to fit the key. I might try something equally as difficult, like finding bigfoot.
Just teasing. I wish you the best of luck. I still search eBay for the 612A as well.

Re: new to The Motel Room
Been thinking about the key (oh really) how the key blanks in the mid-century eagle catalogs do not have an exact match. This combined with finding a fair number of keys with a patient date of 1898 having a closer match to the 612A, points to locks manufactures near the turn of the century (mine, not this one) Going to keep an eye out for a 1905 or 1910 catalog. In a previous post I was sure the key went to a cabinet lock, but just found my first eagle lock with a four fluted key. Will post images. Once again not the same pattern as the 612A missing that last wide flat area on the top left. Interesting thing is this eagle lock does not look like any eagle lock I've seen. After a time you know the ones after 1940 or 1920 or 1950 or the fancy old one which could be from the early 1900s. This lock feel very old, in construction and coloring Its not a single casting, two parts with five through rivets. I am heartened by the possibility the lock which connected to the 612A might be closer to 100 years old then 40 the better chance someone has kept it as an antique and have Niessen dub keys that go all the way to the 1960s says a lot about the commonness of that particular lock.

Re: new to The Motel Room
First example of ilco key model with the same
channel pattern as the eagle 612A. The keys
shown below have been manufacture at least
in the late 80s. Note the last channel is wide
and arching and the first channel barely cuts
into the bottom of the harp. Not of direct help
but information none the less.

Re: new to The Motel Room
Well here we are at the end of two years of collecting. Its been a good year. Jin found the pencils and I found a watch and buckle. Got a 612 but not a 612a. Got one correct Bakelite knob for my TV. Still can not id an ash tray. In the role of OA I have located and exchanged 40 objects. I still search twice a day. Think I'm closing in on half a million viewed auctions. Hoping the Motel makes a quest apprentice in the next show. Love the soap and the lost room ani-gifs. Thinking It might be cool to do a display at the Bay Con Im just few objects short
And here be the short list
Kosh Suitcase
Bulova Watch
Collins Bible
Neissen Key
De Lux Brush
Projects:
The newspaper
The bedspread
Sunshine Office Key Rack
ok the wall print
still have to check
California College of the Arts
see if it was in their collection.
I look forward to 2014. There's stuff
out there and I'm going to fine it
Good hunting to us all.
